Greeting and Announcements

Busy, driven, tired, exhausted, weary, burned out, overloaded, overworked, stressed, fatigued. We hear these words often today. I ask a lot of people "How are you?" and never do I remember someone saying, "Well rested, thank you." But God has a better approach... it is time to simplify.

Prayer of the Day

Pastor: “Observe the Sabbath day by keeping holy.” Deuteronomy 5:12-14

All: “Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work.”  Deuteronomy 5:13-14

Pastor: Heavenly Father, Your ways are wonderful, Your love boundless, Your grace unceasing.

All: May our homes be filled with a Sabbath awareness of Your presence among us so that we are rested. Amen

King of My Heart

Let the King of my heart
Be the mountain where I run
The fountain I drink from
Oh He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the shadow where I hide
The ransom for my life
Oh He is my song

You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh

Let the King of my heart
Be the wind inside my sails
The anchor in the waves
Oh He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the fire inside my veins
The echo of my days
Oh He is my song

You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh

You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh

You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

Scripture Reading

Exodus 20:8-11 - “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

STP Kids Dismissal

STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: Rested

Exodus 20:8-10 - “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work.

Exodus 20:10-11 - On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Matthew 11:28 - “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Deuteronomy 5:15 - “Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.”

Confession & Forgiveness

Pastor: The Lord invited us to observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. We have allowed this generous commandment to become a burden.

All: I confess I have failed to guard my observance of the Lord’s Day and as a result find myself unrested.

Pastor: We have filled our Sabbaths with ordinary work, inordinate leisure, and sinful behaviors, when we should be tasting heaven by participating in worship, enjoying Christian fellowship, and engaging in acts of mercy.

All: Forgive me for my failure to keep this commandment. Lord, help me to restructure my schedule and reorient my heart, so that the rhythm of my life synchronizes with your prescribed rhythm.

Pastor: “Six days you shall labor and do all your work. but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.” We once were slaves to our sin, but God has set us free in Christ Jesus.  As you rediscover the Sabbath, may you find rest as you hear over and over that Christ’s undeserved love brings forgiveness, life, and peace.

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Mark 6:31 - “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Lord I Need You

Lord I come I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You're the one that guides my heart

Lord I need You
Oh I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense
My righteousness
Oh God how I need You

Where sin runs deep
Your grace is more
Where grace is found
Is where You are
And where You are
Lord I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

Lord I need You
Oh I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense
My righteousness
Oh God how I need You

So teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I'll fall on You
Jesus You're my hope and stay

Lord I need You
Oh I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense
My righteousness
Oh God how I need You
You're my one defense
My righteousness
Oh God how I need You

My one defense
My righteousness
Oh God how I need You
