Home - The Place of Faith

We need a place where we can laugh together and cry together—a place where we can grow together, receive support, and learn from one another as we take this journey through life. We need a place of faith.

The Way

Through every battle
Through every heartbreak
Through every circumstance
I believe that You are my fortress
You are my portion
You are my hiding place
I believe You are

The Way the Truth the Life
I believe You are
The Way the Truth the Life
I believe

Through every blessing
Through every promise
Through every breath I take
I believe that You are provider
You are protector
You are the One I love
I believe You are

The Way the Truth the Life
I believe You are
The Way the Truth the Life
I believe You are

It's a new horizon
And I'm set on You
And You meet me here today
With mercies that are new
All my fears and doubts
They can all come too
Because they can't stay long
When I'm here with You
It's a new horizon
And I'm set on You
And You meet me here today
With mercies that are new
All my fears and doubts
They can all come too
Because they can't stay long
When I believe you are

The Way the Truth the Life
I believe You are
The Way the Truth the Life
I believe You are

It's a new horizon
And I'm set on You
And You meet me here today
With mercies that are new
All my fears and doubts
They can all come too
Because they can't stay long
When I believe You are

The Way the Truth the Life
I believe You are

A Story of Home

O Blest The House

Oh blest the house whate'er befall
Where Jesus Christ is all in all
A home that is not wholly His
How sad and poor and dark it is

Oh blest that house where faith is found
And all in hope and love abound
They trust their God and serve Him still
And do in all His holy will

Oh blest that house it prospers well
In peace and joy the parents dwell
And in their childrens lives is shown
How richly God can bless His own

Then here will I and mine today
A solemn promise make and say
Though all the world forsake His Word
I and my house will serve the Lord

Scripture Reading

Deuteronomy 6:6-9, 20-24 (NIV) - These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates…In the future, when your son asks you, “What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the LORD our God has commanded you?” tell him: “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. Before our eyes the LORD sent signs and wonders—great and terrible—on Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household. But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors. The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today.

STP KIDS Dismissal

STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: The Place of Faith

7 Year Strategic Plan - “We will mobilize St. Peter’s homes to engage and disciple 100 families within our community and sphere of influence.”

What changes if Christ dwells in your home?

How can your home be a place of contentment and rest where others enjoy spending time?

How can you witness to your family and friends as they gather?

Joshua 24:13-24 (NIV) - So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities you did not build; and you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’ “Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped…and serve the LORD. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, …But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Then the people answered, “Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods! It was the LORD our God himself who brought us and our parents up out of Egypt, from that land of slavery, and performed those great signs before our eyes. He protected us on our entire journey and among all the nations through which we traveled. And the LORD drove out before us all the nations…who lived in the land. We too will serve the LORD, because he is our God.” Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the LORD. He is a holy God; he is a jealous God. He will not forgive your rebellion and your sins. If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, he will turn and bring disaster on you and make an end of you, after he has been good to you.” But the people said to Joshua, “No! We will serve the LORD.” Then Joshua said, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to serve the LORD.” “Yes, we are witnesses, ” they replied.…And the people said to Joshua, “We will serve the LORD our God and obey him.”

Home Practice

GAMES - On your calendar choose a spot and write the word “game.” Then put away your devices. Turn off the TV. Invite someone in, gather around, and play a game. Recall the joy of playing a children’s game like sorry. Dust off the deck of cards. Talk while you build a puzzle. Have a blast! Use these unplanned opportunities to pour Christ’s love and compassion into each other right in your home.

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

Confession & Forgiveness

Pastor: God gave His people a home and set commands before them saying: "I am the Lord your God, who you brought out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me."

All: As I reflect on my home, I question my obedience: Do I give God time every day in prayer? Do I seek to love Him with my whole heart? Are there other "gods" in my home? Money, security, things, even my house itself?

Pastor: Christ forgives all your sins even though your actions don't justify it. God shows His grace continually. May your home be a place of faith where Christ receives glory and honor and power. God is a Mighty Fortress! His Kingdom reigns forever.

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

A mighty fortress is our God
A sword and shield victorious
He breaks the cruel oppressors rod
And wins salvation glorious
The old satanic foe
Has sworn to work us woe
With craft and dreadful might
He arms himself to fight
On earth he has no equal

Though hordes of devils fill the land
All threatening to devour us
We tremble not unmoved we stand
They cannot overpower us
Let this worlds tyrant rage
In battle we'll engage
His might is doomed to fail
Gods judgement must prevail
One little word can fell him

Gods Word forever shall abide
No thanks to foes who fear it
For God Himself fights by our side
With weapons of the Spirit
Were they to take our house
Goods honor child or spouse
Though life be wrenched away
They cannot win the day
The Kingdoms ours forever

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Joshua 24:28 (NIV) - Then Joshua dismissed the people, each to their own inheritance.

Cornerstone

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus' Name

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus' Name

Christ alone cornerstone
Weak made strong
In the Savior’s love
Through the storm
He is Lord Lord of all

When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veil

Christ alone cornerstone
Weak made strong
In the Savior’s love
Through the storm
He is Lord Lord of all

Christ alone cornerstone
Weak made strong
In the Savior’s love
Through the storm
He is Lord Lord of all

When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless stand before the throne

Christ alone cornerstone
Weak made strong
In the Savior’s love
Through the storm
He is Lord Lord of all
