Into Our World - Jerusalem

Welcome!

Greeting & Announcements

We welcome you to Jerusalem at the time of Zechariah—a world where God is far off, where repentance is necessary, and where the blood of sacrifice serves as the only point of connection between God’s people and their God. Our need for Jesus becomes clear in this place as we await the coming of the Christ Child for our salvation.

Lift Up Your Head You Mighty Gates / Scripture

Lift up your heads you mighty gates
Behold the King of glory waits
The King of kings is drawing near
The Savior of the world is here
He brings salvation down to earth
Greet Him with shouts of holy mirth
Our highest praise we bring
Our God Creator King

Pastor: Now in Jerusalem there was a man named Simeon.

All: God’s Spirit came to him and told him that he would not die until he had seen Christ the Lord.

Pastor: When Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple, Simeon took the baby Jesus in his arms and praised God:

All: “Now, Lord, you have kept your promise, and you may let your servant go in peace.”

Pastor: The aged prophet Anna was also there in the temple; day and night she worshiped God, fasting and praying.

All: She praised God, and spoke about the child Jesus to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.

O blest the land the city blest
Where Christ the Savior is confessed
O happy hearts and happy homes
To whom this King in mercy comes
As to Jerusalem He came
With palms to praise His holy name
God send the Light divine
In our dark streets to shine

Pastor: Stir up your power, O Lord, and come. Protect us from the threatening dangers of our sin, and save us by your mighty deliverance; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Christ Jesus Lord and Savior, come
I open wide my heart Your home
Oh enter with Your radiant grace
On my life's pattern shine Your face
And let Your Holy Spirit guide
To gracious vistas rich and wide
Our God we praise Your name
Forevermore the same

Scripture Reading

Luke 1:5-17 - In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly. But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old. Once when Zechariah’s division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God, he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense. And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside. Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John. He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born. He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Here Comes Heaven

Children weep no more
Hope is on the horizon
Weary world behold
Your promised Messiah

Angels let your song begin
Here comes heaven
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Here comes heaven

Sinner wait no more
Love has broken the silence
Come let us adore
The Savior is with us

Angels let your song begin
Here comes heaven
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Here comes heaven
Here comes heaven

Now behold His glory
Glory in the highest
All the earth rejoice for Christ is born

Over all who mourn
Breaks the dawn of salvation
Darkness reigns no more
For Jesus is greater
He is greater

Angels let your song begin
Here comes heaven
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Here comes heaven
Angels let your song begin
Here comes heaven
All creation worship Him
Here comes heaven
Here comes heaven

Message: Jerusalem

What Can We Learn From Jerusalem?

Proclamation of Forgiveness

Hebrews 10:17-18 - “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Romans 12:1 - Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

His Name Is Jesus

The King is in the room
Come see the scars of love upon His hands
The King is in the room
We’ll watch the darkness flee at His command
Who is this King
Who is this King

His name is Jesus
His name is Jesus
Light of the world
There’s freedom in His name
Awesome in power
Reigning forever
Light of the world
There’s freedom in His name

The Healer's in the room
Let miracles break out across this place
The Savior's in the room
No soul beyond the boundaries of His grace
There’s resurrection power in His name

His name is Jesus
His name is Jesus
Light of the world
There’s freedom in His name
Awesome in power
Reigning forever
Light of the world
There’s freedom in His name
There's freedom in His name

There's freedom in His name

There’s never been a love so great
He died so we could live
Then He rose up from that grave
Name another King like this
Now all authority
Forever belongs to Him
He reigns in victory
Name another King like this
There’s never been a love so great
He died so we could live
Then He rose up from that grave
Name another King like this
Now all authority
Forever belongs to Him
He reigns in victory
Name another King like this

Name another King like this
Who is this King

His name is Jesus
His name is Jesus
Light of the world
There’s freedom in His name
Awesome in power
Reigning forever
Light of the world
There’s freedom in His name
There's freedom in His name

There's never been a King like this
His name is Jesus
