Words To Live By - Sinful
Welcome!
Today's Word to Live By is SINFUL.
What would you do if you walked into a room and Jesus was seated right in front of you? Today we hear about the response of one woman. Would yours be similar?
ORDER OF WORSHIP
Holy Water
God I'm on my knees again
God I'm begging please again
I need You
Oh I need You
Walking down these desert roads
Water for my thirsty soul
I need You
Oh I need You
Your forgiveness
Is like sweet sweet honey on my lips
Like the sound of a symphony to my ears
Like holy water on my skin
Dead man walking slave to sin
I wanna know about being born again
I need You
Oh God I need You
So take me to the riverside
Take me under baptize
I need You
Oh God I need You
Your forgiveness
Is like sweet sweet honey on my lips
Like the sound of a symphony to my ears
Like holy water on my skin
I don't wanna abuse Your grace
God I need it every day
It's the only thing that ever really
Makes me wanna change
I don't wanna abuse Your grace
God I need it every day
It's the only thing that ever really
Makes me wanna change
I don't wanna abuse Your grace
God I need it every day
It's the only thing that ever really
Makes me wanna change
I don't wanna abuse Your grace
God I need it every day
It's the only thing that ever really
Makes me wanna change
Your forgiveness
Is like sweet sweet honey on my lips
Like the sound of a symphony to my ears
Like holy water
Your forgiveness
Is like sweet sweet honey on my lips
Like the sound of a symphony to my ears
Like holy water on my skin
It’s like holy water on my skin
It’s like holy water
Welcome
The St. Peter’s family made suggestions of words that they would like to hear a message about. We collected over 100 words, but there is still time if you want to make a suggestion.
Psalm 51
People: Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.
People: Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
O Come to the Altar
Are you hurting and broken within
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin
Jesus is calling
Have you come to the end of yourself
Do you thirst for a drink from the well
Jesus is calling
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ
Leave behind your regrets and mistakes
Come today there's no reason to wait
Jesus is calling
Bring your sorrows and trade them for joy
From the ashes a new life is born
Jesus is calling
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood
Oh what a Savior
Isn't he wonderful
Sing alleluia Christ is risen
Bow down before him
For he is Lord of all
Sing alleluia Christ is risen
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ
Bear your cross as you wait for the crown
Tell the world of the treasure you've found
Scripture Reading
Luke 7:36-50 - When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.” Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” “Tell me, teacher,” he said. “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.” “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said. Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
STP Kids Dismissal
STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!
Message: Sinful
Luke 7:37-38 - A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
Luke 7:39 - “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”
Luke 7:48-49 - Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
Ephesians 2:8-9 - For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.
Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Blessing
Luke 7:50 - Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
Chief of Sinners Though I Be
Chief of sinners though I be
Jesus shed His blood for me
Died that I might live on high
Lives that I might never die
As the branch is to the vine
I am His and He is mine
Only Jesus can impart
Balm to heal the wounded heart
Peace that flows from sin forgiven
Joy that lifts the soul to heaven
Faith and hope to walk with God
In the way that Encoch trod
Chief of sinners though I be
Christ is all in all to me
All my wants to Him are known
All my sorrows are His own
He sustains the hidden life
Safe with Him from earthly strife
O my Savior help afford
By your Spirit and your word
When my wayward heart would stray
Keep me in the narrow way
Grace in time of need supply
While I live and when I die
St. Peter’s Mission Update
Prayer Requests
“Sinful” Sure would be nice if we could learn to avoid it. We can’t. But we have a Savior who takes our sins - and the resulting punishment - upon Himself. “If we say we have not sinned, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But, if we confess our sins, God is merciful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Pray circles around our immediate neighbors as they are introduced to the concept of remodeling/development of the St. Peter’s facility to meet the needs of community families.
Pray for peace in Ukraine - remember those defending their homeland, those displaced, and those who are facing the loss of loved ones.

Pastor Led Sunday Bible Class
Every Sunday you are invited to join with fellow worshipers to study the Sunday texts more in depth. Examine the context to see the setting of the story. Be challenged to apply Biblical truth to your life. At 10:30am in the Discipleship Room to the right as you exit the sanctuary. Bring a cup of coffee and pick up a treat to enjoy on your way in. Life Application Bibles are provided for your study. Pastor Dave is back this week to help you consider the Biblical response to sinfulness.
Lent Hymn Reflections
You are invited during Lent for a reflective time that will make use of some of the great hymns of the passion. By request we are returning to weekly midweek services Wednesdays, at 6pm! The service is 30 minutes in length and includes a message based on one of the powerful hymns of Lent. Bring your singing voice or your appreciation of the theological poetry found in hymns — or both!
Assistance for Ukrainians
Intersections
They are places where faith and real life meet. Here at St. Peter's, we are beginning some short workshops that will prepare you to live out our faith in practical ways. Intersections are brief 15-minute workshops where Pastor Mark will present a brief insight with a few suggestions to help you apply it. They will all be online so there will be no travel. Participate from anywhere. Each Intersection will be live and participatory. 8:00am on the even Saturdays every month (not the odd Saturdays!) Here is the Zoom Link.
The next Intersections:
Email: getting control of your email... so it doesn't control you - March 12
The Blessing: learn how to bless your loved ones this spring - March 26
Households: the Bible mentions households over 2000 times - define your influence - April 2
