Journey With The Savior - Open Your Eyes

Welcome!

Thanks for joining us! We’re so glad you’re here with us. If you’re new here and want to find out a bit more about our service, have questions, or want to connect, click the button below.

Greeting

More than sight, “seeing” is becoming aware, noticing, examining, or recognizing what is around us. We can look at the same thing over and over again and not truly see what is right in front of us! Jesus gives a man sight in our Bible reading today. Do you need the miracle of being able to see as well?

Call To Worship

Leader: O come, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2)

All: So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:18)

Prayer of the Day

Leader: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, Your Son gave sight to a man who was blind. Through the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, grant sight to us, who are by nature spiritually blind by sin, that we may walk as children of light; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Egypt

I won’t forget
The wonder of how You brought
Deliverance
The exodus of my heart
You found me
You freed me
Held back the waters for my release
Oh Yahweh

You’re the God who fights for me
Lord of every victory
Hallelujah hallelujah
You have torn apart the sea
You have led me through the deep
Hallelujah hallelujah

A cloud by day
Is a sign that You are with me
The fire by night
Is the guiding light to my feet
You found me
You freed me
Held back the waters for my release
Oh Yahweh

You’re the God who fights for me
Lord of every victory
Hallelujah hallelujah
You have torn apart the sea
You have led me through the deep
Hallelujah hallelujah

'Cause You stepped into my Egypt
And You took me by the hand
You marched me out in freedom
Into the promised land
Now I will not forget You God
I’ll sing of all You’ve done
Death is swallowed up forever
By the fury of Your love

You’re the God who fights for me
Lord of every victory
Hallelujah hallelujah
You have torn apart the sea
You have led me through the deep
Hallelujah hallelujah

You’re the God who fights for me
Lord of every victory
Hallelujah hallelujah
You have torn apart the sea
You have led me through the deep
Hallelujah hallelujah

Scripture Reading

Matthew 20:29-34 - As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

STP Kids Dismissal

STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: Open Your Eyes

Matthew 20:30 - “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”

Matthew 20:32 - Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?”

Matthew 20:33 - “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.”

Matthew 20:34 - Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

“It seemed like the people who could see the best were the most blind.”

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind but now I see

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

Through many dangers toils and snares
I have already come
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home

When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun

Prayer

Lenten Litany

Pastor: O Lord,
All: have mercy.

Pastor: O Christ,
All: have mercy.

Pastor: O Lord,
All: have mercy.

Confession of Sins

All: Lord, we are sinful and spiritually blind. In our darkness, we have staggered about, following false gods that we can see with our physical eyes: false gods such as money, family, and our own pride. Forgive us for not seeking You above all, and give us eyes of faith to find forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Have mercy on us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

Pastor: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins.  Open your eyes and follow our Savior.

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Psalm 25:4-5 - Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

Be Thou My Vision

Be Thou my Vision O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought by day or by night
Waking or sleeping Thy presence my light

Be Thou my Wisdom and Thou my true Word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me Lord
Thou my great Father I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling and I with Thee one

Riches I heed not nor man’s empty praise
Thou mine Inheritance now and always
Thou and Thou only be first in my heart
High King of Heaven my Treasure Thou art

High King of Heaven my victory won
May I reach Heaven’s joys O bright Heaven’s Sun
Heart of my own heart whatever befall
Still be my Vision O Ruler of all
Heart of my own heart whatever befall
Still be my Vision O Ruler of all
