Not Done Yet

God of the promise
God of the future
You see beginning and end
God of the rescue
God of the breakthrough
How great is Your faithfulness
You're not done yet

No eye has ever seen
No ear has ever heard
No one could ever comprehend
Your word will be enough
Your promise we will trust
Greater things are still ahead

You're not done yet
You're not done yet

God in my seeking
God in my dreaming
You put a song in my soul
God in the working
God I'm believing
You'll do the impossible
You're not done yet

No eye has ever seen
No ear has ever heard
No one could ever comprehend
Your word will be enough
Your promise we will trust
Greater things are still ahead

You're not done yet
You're not done yet
You're not done yet
You're not done yet

You're up to something right now
You're doing a new thing right now
God let Your glory come down
Don't hold back
Don't hold back
You're up to something right now
You're doing a new thing right now
God let Your glory come down
Don't hold back
Don't hold back
You're moving mountains right now
You're breaking chains right now
God let Your glory come down
Don't hold back
Don't hold back

No eye has ever seen
No ear has ever heard
No one could ever comprehend
Your word will be enough
Your promise we will trust
Greater things are still ahead

You're not done yet
You're not done yet
You're not done yet
Greater things are still ahead
You're not done yet

Greeting

Reality has set in. St. Peter's is shrinking. Our numbers are down. Rather than asking "What happened to my church?" we can become a church that makes a difference with the Spirit's power. Just as Jesus sent His disciples out into the world after the Resurrection, we need to be sent. God is not done yet.

Opening Prayer

Pastor: Almighty God, we have celebrated the power of our Savior's resurrection. As your disciples, send us out with new energy to carry the Church's message of life and hope to all.

All: We boldly carry the message of Jesus Christ, risen and present still today. For He lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Scripture Reading

Acts 5:12-25 - The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon’s Colonnade. No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people. Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed. Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.” At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people. When the high priest and his associates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles. But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there. So they went back and reported, “We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.” On hearing this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests were at a loss, wondering what this might lead to. Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.”

Our God Our Help in Ages Past (LW 180)

O God our help in ages past
Our hope for years to come
Our shelter from the stormy blast
And our eternal home

Under the shadow of Your throne
Your saints have dwelt secure
Sufficient is Your arm alone
And our defense is sure

Before the hills in order stood
Or earth received its frame
From everlasting You are God
To endless years the same

A thousand ages in Your sight
Are like an evening gone
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun

Time like an ever rolling stream
Soon bears all us all away
We fly forgotten as a dream
Dies at the opening day

Our God our help in ages past
Our hope for years to come
Still be our guard while troubles last
And our eternal home

STP Kids Dismissal

STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: God’s At Work

Acts 5:20 - “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.”

Acts 5:25-29 - Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.” At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people would stone them. The apostles were brought in and made to appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest. “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,” he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.” Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!

Acts 5:30-33 - The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross. God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins. We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.” When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death.

Acts 5:34-39 - But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while. Then he addressed the Sanhedrin: “Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”

Acts 5:38-39 - “If their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men;”

God Brought Me To This Time and Place (LW 456)

God brought me to this time and place
Surrounded by His favor
He guarded all my nights and days
His kindness did not waver
His peace as sentinel He gave
My spirits health and joy to save
To this day He has blessed me

All honor thanks and praise to You
O Father God of heaven
For mercies every morning new
Which You have freely given
Inscribe this on my memory
My Lord has done great things for me
To this day He has helped me

Oh help me ever God of grace
Through every time and season
At every turn in every place
Redemptive love the reason
Through joy and pain and final breath
By Jesus life and saving death
Help me as You have helped me

Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Acts 5:42 - Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.

Christ Be Magnified

Were creation suddenly articulate
With a thousand tongues to lift one cry
From north to south and east to west
We'd hear Christ be magnified

Were the whole earth echoing His eminence
His name would burst from sea and sky
From rivers to the mountain tops
We'd hear Christ be magnified

O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me

When every creature finds its inmost melody
And every human heart its native cry
Then in one enraptured hymn of praise
We'll sing Christ be magnified

O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me

I won't bow to idols
I'll stand strong and worship You
And if it puts me in the fire
I'll rejoice 'cause You're there too
I won't be formed by feelings
I’ll hold fast to what is true
If the cross brings transformation
Then I'll be crucified with You
'Cause death is just the doorway
Into resurrection life
If I join You in Your suffering
Then I'll join You when You rise
And when You return in glory
With all the angels and the saints
My heart will still be singing
My song will be the same

O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me
