Don’t Waste Your Summer - Paying Attention

Journaling shows us where God is working in our lives. We can track the movements of God in our lives and the lives of others by remembering what He has done. Don't waste your summer! Grab some paper and a pen and start paying attention.

Christ Be Magnified

Were creation suddenly articulate
With a thousand tongues to lift one cry
From north to south and east to west
We'd hear Christ be magnified

Were the whole earth echoing His eminence
His name would burst from sea and sky
From rivers to the mountain tops
We'd hear Christ be magnified

O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me

When every creature finds its inmost melody
And every human heart its native cry
Then in one enraptured hymn of praise
We'll sing Christ be magnified

O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me

I won't bow to idols
I'll stand strong and worship You
And if it puts me in the fire
I'll rejoice 'cause You're there too
I won't be formed by feelings
I’ll hold fast to what is true
If the cross brings transformation
Then I'll be crucified with You
'Cause death is just the doorway
Into resurrection life
If I join You in Your suffering
Then I'll join You when You rise
And when You return in glory
With all the angels and the saints
My heart will still be singing
My song will be the same

O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me

Greeting & Announcements

Opening Prayer

All: Almighty God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You are at work all around us. What a blessing to observe Your goodness, to reflect on Your mercies, to record Your undeserved love that is evident all around us. We praise and magnify Your holy name! Amen.

Scripture Reading

Romans 8:26-28 - In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Holy Spirit

There's nothing worth more
That will ever come close
No thing can compare
You're our living hope
Your Presence Lord

I've tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your Presence Lord

Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord
Your Presence Lord

There's nothing worth more
That will ever come close
No thing can compare
You're our living hope
Your Presence Lord

I've tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your Presence Lord

Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord
Your Presence Lord

Let us become more aware of Your Presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness
Let us become more aware of Your Presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness
Let us become more aware of Your Presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness

Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord

Message: Paying Attention

Diary: A book in which one keeps a daily record of events and experiences.

Psalm 119:1-8 (TLB) - Happy are all who perfectly follow the laws of God. Happy are all who search for God and always do his will, rejecting compromise with evil and walking only in his paths. You have given us your laws to obey—oh, how I want to follow them consistently. Then I will not be disgraced, for I will have a clean record. After you have corrected me, I will thank you by living as I should!  I will obey! Oh, don’t forsake me and let me slip back into sin again.

Psalm Readings

Psalm 25:4-5 - Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

Psalm 119:17-20 - Be good to your servant while I live, that I may obey your word. Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me. My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times.

Nicene Creed

All: I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Confession and Forgiveness

Pastor: Do you recognize that you have not honored the Lord with life of faith and obedience? At times you and I have lived as though the world revolved around us, rather than seeing how He is chasing after us to cover us in His grace.

All: Yes I believe that I am a sinner. I need the forgiveness that only Christ gives.

Pastor: Together with the Roman official, we proclaim today:

All: Lord, I am not worthy to receive You, but only say the word and I will be healed.

Pastor: Because of the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior upon the cross and the victory that has been earned for us through His resurrection you are forgiven and have life in His Name.  Receive Him who comes to us now in His body and blood.

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Hebrews 2:1 - We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

Come Thou Fount

Come Thou Fount of ev'ry blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Here I raise my Ebenezer
Hither by Thy help I come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wand'ring from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

Oh to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let Thy goodness like a fetter
Bind my wand'ring heart to Thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above
Here's my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Here's my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above
