Words To Live By - Wonders

Welcome!

Today’s word to live by: WONDERS

You were created for wonder - created to marvel at God’s creation, to awe at His wonders, and to admire His works. You were filled with the Holy Spirit to worship Him with reverence, to obey His words with humility, and to love Him. You are part of something that still today creates wonder. When you and I give generously, others are in awe at the signs and wonders of what the Spirit is doing through us.

ORDER OF WORSHIP

Build My Life

Worthy of every song we could ever sing
Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
Jesus the name above every other name
Jesus the only one who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
We live for You

Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder and show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me

Jesus the name above every other name
Jesus the only one who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
We live for You

Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder and show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me

I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken
I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken

Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder and show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me

Greeting

Pentecost Reading

Acts 2:1-4 - When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Pentecost Creed

People: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Spirit Move

I feel it in my bones You're about to move
I feel it in the wind You're about to ride in
You said that You would pour Your Spirit out
You said that You would fall on sons and daughters

I feel it in my bones You're about to move
I feel it in the wind You're about to ride in
You said that You would pour Your Spirit out
You said that You would fall on sons and daughters

So like the rain come drench us in love
And let Your glory rush in like a flood

We are fixed on this one thing
To know Your goodness and see Your glory
We're transformed by this one thing
To know Your presence and see Your beauty

I can see it now Your kingdom come
I can hear it now the sounds of Heaven
You said that if we ask we'll receive
We are asking for the greater measure

So like the rain come drench us in love
And let Your power rush in like a flood

We are fixed on this one thing
To know Your goodness and see Your glory
We're transformed by this one thing
To know Your presence and see Your beauty

So come and blow on through
Spirit move we're ready for You
To come and blow on through
Come and do what only you can do
So come and blow on through
Spirit move we're ready for You
To come and blow on through
Come and do what only you can do

We are fixed on this one thing
To know Your goodness and see Your glory
We're transformed by this one thing
To know Your presence and see Your beauty
We are fixed on this one thing
To know Your goodness and see Your glory
We're transformed by this one thing
To know Your presence and see Your beauty

Scripture Reading

Acts 2:43-47 - Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

STP Kids Dismissal

STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: Wonders

Acts 2:17 - In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people….”

Acts 2:22 - “Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.”

Acts 2:32-33 - “God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.”

Acts 2:38-39- Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

Acts 2:43-45 - Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.

2 Corinthians 9:7 - God loves a cheerful giver.

St. Peter’s Vision - We will actively live out our faith so that our local community is connected to God’s transforming power.”

Prayer

Confession of Sins

Pastor: Give the Lord a chance to show you how good He is. Great blessings belong to those who depend on Him! The Lord’s holy people should fear and respect Him. Those who respect Him will always have what they need. Those who seek the Lord’s help have all the good things they need.

People:  I confess that sometimes I doubt You will supply all my needs. My troubles seem overwhelming. I find myself wanting more. You are the creator of all things, and you provide not only material blessings but solve all my problems with your peace, encouragement, and forgiveness through Jesus.

Promise of Deliverance

Pastor: Pray to the Lord, and he will hear you. He will save you from all your troubles. The Lord is close to those who have suffered disappointment. He saves those who are discouraged. Good people might have many problems, but the Lord will take them all away. He will protect them completely.

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

We worship and praise our Risen Savior forever!

“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

The Lord’s Prayer

People: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Acts 4:30 - “Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

Lord of Glory You Have Bought Us

Lord of glory You have bought us
With Your lifeblood as the price
Never grudging for the lost ones
That tremendous sacrifice
And with that have freely given
Blessings countless as the sand
To the unthankful and the evil
With Your own unsparing hand

Grant us hearts dear Lord
To give gladly freely of Your own
With the sunshine of Your goodness
Melt our thankless hearts of stone
Till our cold and selfish natures
Warmed by You at length believe
That more happy and more blessed
'Tis to give than to receive

Wondrous honor You have given
To our humblest charity
In Your own mysterious sentence
You have done it all to Me
Can it be O gracious Master
That You deign for alms to sue
Saying by Your poor and needy
Give as I have given to you

Update on St. Peter's Facility Development

AbleLight has made the difficult decision not to move forward building the proposed Cornerstone Village project on our campus. Rising inflation impacting construction and supply costs, operating expenses, and interest rates have affected the ability to deliver a solution that works for all the parties involved. These external factors, combined with the push for a smaller, lower density development have led to the determination that the project is not financially sustainable and AbleLight will not be moving forward.

In the end, resident affordability is a key requirement for the success of the project.  A smaller building that is being suggested by the city council and the neighbors would not serve as many individuals with disabilities. AbleLight remains committed to serving the housing needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and as such, will continue to support inclusive housing options.

St. Peter’s will continue to explore solutions for our under-utilized facility centered around our mission and strategic plan, and will continue to engage members and neighbors in the process. We still face building repair issues that must be addressed. The St. Peter's Board of Directors and the Exploration Task Force will come back to the congregation at a later time with a report after giving consideration to options going forward.

Voters' Assembly - this morning after worship

A regularly scheduled Voters’ Assembly will be held Sunday, June 5 following the worship service. All are invited to learn about our 2022-2023 Annual Ministry Plan. The Ministry Plan and supporting budget will come before the members for approval. Given that AbleLight has decided that it is not feasible to move forward in developing housing for those with disabilities on our property, we will also be bringing forward an AbleLight Termination of Option to dissolve the previous exploration agreement that was in place. This has been approved by our congregation's attorney. You may review the legal document here.

Minneapolis Lutheran High School Alumni Gathering

On Sunday, June 12, St. Peter’s will welcome alumni from the area and those who have moved out of state. The service, led by a son of the congregation, Pastor Paul Koehn, will include the participation of other pastors who attended MLHS. Even the music will be provided by a former music teacher. The special service will be held at St. Peter’s during our regular Sunday 9:30am worship and will be followed by a reception to reunite with faces from the past. We give God the glory for the impact that Christian education has had on the lives of so many.

Memorial Service for Betty Gaudineer

Tim & Elizabeth Gaudineer invite you to celebrate the life of his mother, Betty on Wednesday, June 15, 11:00am at St. Peter’s. The service will be followed by a greeting of the family and a lunch. Betty was buried beside her husband in Des Moines, IA.

New Address for Jim, Tosca, Naomi, & Jamie Grimm

8912 Brigade Trail
Pensacola, FL 32534

The Grimms are beginning a new journey in their ministry. They headed to Pensacola, Florida where Tosca will serve as Preschool Director and Jim will teach on staff. Read the announcement here. May God bless them as they transition and may they be a blessing to the people of Pensacola, as they were to us here at St. Peter’s.
