MLHS Reunion Worship Service

Welcome!

This morning we are honored to host alumni families from Minneapolis Lutheran High School for worship. They have gathered for various events this weekend culminating with worship together led by Pastor Paul Koehn, a graduate and son of the congregation. After the service, enjoy a time for refreshments and connections with individuals from years ago. We give God the glory for the impact that Christian education has had on the lives of so many.

Confession of Sins and Absolution

Pastor: Jesus said, “Go, then, to all people everywhere and make them my disciples; baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

People: We have been taught in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. And we teach others in the name of the Triune God.

Pastor: We are here today to praise God for the blessings we have received because the Gospel has been taught to us and to ask for the Holy Spirit’s blessings on our efforts to teach others. But first let us admit our failures as both learners and teachers.

People: Almighty God, we confess that we have not always learned as we should. We have neglected to study your Word. We have failed to give it full attention in our lives. We have failed to teach others as we should. We have not been faithful in sharing our faith. Most of all, we confess that we have not always used what we have learned. The good that we know we should do, we have not always done. The bad that we know we should not do, we have often done. For this we ask forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

Pastor: Because Christ, your Savior, has done the good that you have failed to do; because He has paid for the bad that you have done, you are forgiven. Therefore, throw away the load of guilt and join in praising our God. May the abundance of His grace cover you and make you want to grow in His love and power. May the forgiveness you receive give you reason to teach others about the source of the new life in Christ.


Psalmody - Psalm 103

Pastor: Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

People: Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.

Pastor: The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.

People: He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.

Pastor: For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

People: As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;

Scripture Readings

1 Samuel 2:22-26 - Now Eli, who was very old, heard about everything his sons were doing to all Israel and how they slept with the women who served at the entrance to the tent of meeting. So he said to them, “Why do you do such things? I hear from all the people about these wicked deeds of yours. No, my sons; the report I hear spreading among the Lord’s people is not good. If one person sins against another, God may mediate for the offender; but if anyone sins against the Lord, who will intercede for them?” His sons, however, did not listen to their father’s rebuke, for it was the Lord’s will to put them to death. And the boy Samuel continued to grow in stature and in favor with the Lord and with people.

1 Samuel 3:1-5 - The boy Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the Lord was rare; there were not many visions. One night Eli, whose eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in his usual place. The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the house of the Lord, where the ark of God was. Then the Lord called Samuel. Samuel answered, “Here I am.” And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.

1 Samuel 3:8-10 - A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Ephesians 3:14-21 - For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your heartsthrough faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

John 8:31-36 - To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.


Apostles Creed

People: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate. Was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell.  The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church,  the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

STP Kids Dismissal

STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

The Lord’s Prayer

People: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.   • Give thanks to God for Christian Education – from early childhood to elementary to high school to college, we have the opportunity to bless generations of children by sharing our faith. We rejoice in our heritage of Christian education.

Pastor Led Sunday Bible Class

We will not be meeting TODAY so class members can make connects with alumni. The class will resume next Sunday, June 19. You are invited to join with fellow worshipers to study the Sunday texts more in depth. Examine the context to see the setting of the story. Be challenged to apply Biblical truth to your life. At 10:30am in the Discipleship Room to the right as you exit the sanctuary. Bring a cup of coffee and pick up a treat to enjoy on your way in. Life Application Bibles are provided for your study.


Memorial Service for Betty Gaudineer POSTPONED

Due to Tim Gaudineer’s hospitalization, the memorial service has been postponed until further notice. May the Lord provide strength and healing for Tim.
