Greeting and Announcements

Our country was built on the concept of freedom. Goes hand in hand with Christianity. Freedom from sin; freedom from trying to earn our salvation; Freedom to worship. In God we trust!

Freedom

Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

All: Amen.

Pastor: God bless us and lead our nation in the way of righteousness,

All: into the freedom found in Jesus Christ. Amen.

Pastor: Jesus said, “If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples,

All: and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)

Pastor: In Him and through faith in Him

All: we may approach God with freedom and confidence. (Ephesians 3:12)

Pastor: Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.

All: Through Him everyone who believes is set from every sin. (Acts 13:38-39)

Pastor: For freedom Christ has set us free;

All: stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)

Pastor: You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature;

All: Rather, serve one another in love. (Galatians 5:13-14)

Pastor: For it is by grace you have been saved through faith -- and this is not from yourselves,

All: it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

This is Amazing Grace

Who breaks the power of sin and darkness
Whose love is mighty and so much stronger
The King of Glory the King above all kings

Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder
And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder
The King of Glory the King above all kings

This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You laid down Your life
That I would be set free
Oh Jesus I sing for all that You've done for me

Who brings our chaos back into order
Who makes the orphan a son and daughter
The King of Glory the King of Glory

Who rules the nations with truth and justice
Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance
The King of Glory the King above all kings

This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You laid down Your life
That I would be set free
Oh Jesus I sing for all that You've done for me

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy worthy worthy

This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You laid down Your life
That I would be set free
Oh Jesus I sing for all that You've done for me

Scripture Reading

Psalm 146 - Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, my soul. I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God. He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—he remains faithful forever. He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets prisoners free, the LORD gives sight to the blind, the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down, the LORD loves the righteous. The LORD watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. The LORD reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the LORD.

STP Kids Dismissal

STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: Freedom

1. People have been searching for freedom for thousands of years

2. God’s answer to our loss of freedom has always been Jesus Christ

Luke 4:16-21 - He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

3 Jesus came to free us from sin, death and anything that enslaves us.

4. Only Jesus can break the bonds of slavery and lead us to true freedom, now and forever.

John 8:34-36 - Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Action Step

Pledges

To the Flag of our Country

All: I Pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands; one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

To the Christian Flag

All: I Pledge allegiance to the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the faith for which it stands; one Savior, eternal, with grace and mercy for all. So help me God.

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you!

Apostles Creed

All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate. Was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell.  The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church,  the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

John 8:36 - If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
