God of Grace and Glory (LW 398)

God of grace and God of glory
On Thy people pour Thy power
Crown Thine ancient church's story
Bring her bud to glorious flower
Grant us wisdom grant us courage
For the facing of this hour
For the facing of this hour

Lo the hosts of evil 'round us
Scorn Thy Christ assail His ways
From the fears that
Long have bound us
Free our hearts to faith and praise
Grant us wisdom grant us courage
For the living of these days
For the living of these days

Set our feet on lofty places
Gird our lives that they may be
Armored with all Christ-like graces
In the fight to set men free
Grant us wisdom grant us courage
That we fail not man nor Thee
That we fail not man nor Thee

Save us from weak resignation
To the evils we deplore
Let the search for Thy salvation
Be our glory evermore
Grant us wisdom grant us courage
Serving Thee whom we adore
Serving Thee whom we adore

Scripture Reading

Psalm 90:1-17 - Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. You turn people back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, you mortals.” A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. Yet you sweep people away in the sleep of death— they are like the new grass of the morning: In the morning it springs up new, but by evening it is dry and withered. We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation. You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a moan. Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. If only we knew the power of your anger! Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Relent, LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble. May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children. May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.

For Many Years O God of Grace (LW 325)

For many years O God of grace
This church has been Your dwelling place
And we Your congregation
Oh Christ our precious cornerstone
Our faith is built and Christ alone
Is still our one foundation
This day we pray
Let us greet You Lord and meet You here with singing
All our praises to You bringing

Here children have been born anew
As manifold as morning dew
Their vows to You confessing
Here many found a table spread
They ate Christ body with the bread
And drank the cup of blessing
This day we pray
Let none falter at Your altar we adore You
Gladly worship here before You

Here when the marriage vows were made
Both bride and groom besought Your aid
Your love their own transcending
Here mourners with their troubled heart
Have found the peace Your Word imparts
The joy that has no ending
This day we pray
May the story of Your glory here resounding
Be a song of grace abounding

Confession and Forgiveness

Pastor: O Lord, we thank you for the gift of time; yet in spite of this we feel that we never have enough time.

All: Forgive us, O Lord, for wasting our time on those things of insignificant value, and not reserving time to do those things of importance.

Pastor: Forgive us, O Lord, for the hours of time spent in an endless run of activities, while we have failed to take time to worship and pray.

All: O Lord, help us to learn from our wrong choices and deeds in the past. Forgive us, guide us and inspire us to use our calendars more wisely to your honor and glory, we ask it in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Pastor: By God’s grace in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Begin anew, fresh from repentance and forgiveness. Let us live each day ahead in worship and praise to glorify God!

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you!

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Psalm 90:17 - May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.
