He Gets Us - Family
Jesus had strained relationships with His loved ones. But when they disagreed with Him, He didn’t push them away or get defensive. Instead, He looked to restore healthy relationships. Jesus understood that relationships are messy. His closest ones, even with family and friends, were too. But He knew people close to Him were more important than differences and needing to be right. He gets family! He gets us.

Victorious
How magnificent your works O God
How expansive all that You have made
Beautiful in every way O God
Let my heart be filled with praise
Holy holy is our God
Who reigns forevermore
Seated on the throne victorious
Holy holy is our God
Who reigns in majesty
The high exalted King victorious
Strong and mighty fortress in the fight
You have scattered all my enemies
You have brought me safely through the night
Oh my heart is filled with offerings
Holy holy is our God
Who reigns forevermore
Seated on the throne victorious
Holy holy is our God
Who reigns in majesty
The high exalted King victorious
The whole earth is filled
With the glory of our God
The glory of our God
Every knee will bow
Every tongue confess and say
Holy is our God
The whole earth is filled
With the glory of our God
The glory of our God
Every knee will bow
Every tongue confess and say
Holy is our God
Holy holy is our God
Who reigns forevermore
Seated on the throne victorious
Holy holy is our God
Who reigns forevermore
Seated on the throne victorious
Holy holy is our God
Who reigns in majesty
The high exalted King victorious

Scripture Reading
Colossians 3:12-21 - Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Parents, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
STP KIDS Dismissal
STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!
Message - Was Jesus’ Family Messy Too?
Mark 6:3 - “Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?”
Mark 6:4 - Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”
Luke 4:29-30 - They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.
Mark 3:20-21 - Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
Colossians 3:12-16 - Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Colossians 3:18-21 - Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Parents, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
Theme Video
Oh Blest the House
Oh blest the house whate'er befall
Where Jesus Christ is all in all
For if He were not dwelling there
How dark and poor and void it were
Oh blest that house where faith is found
And all in hope and love abound
To trust their God and serve Him still
And do in all His holy will
Oh blest that house it prospers well
In peace and joy the parents dwell
And in their children’s lives is shown
How richly God can bless His own
Then here will I and mine today
A solemn cov'nant make and say
Though all the world forsake His Word
My house and I will serve the Lord
Confession & Forgiveness
Pastor: People of God, you have been called into God’s family. Yet we have chosen to act like children of the world. Together we confess our sins.
All: Father, we confess that we were born in sin. We confess our selfishness in our thoughts, in our words, and in our deeds. We confess that we have despised the families You have given us. We confess that we have despised Your family. For all our sins, we beg Your forgiveness.
Pastor: In your Baptism, God Himself adopted you into His family. There, He washed every sin from you and put His name on you. You were baptized into the death of Christ and buried with Him and raised to new life. And by His authority as a servant of Christ, I forgive you all your sins, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer
If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.
Communion
The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.
“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)
The Lord’s Prayer
All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Blessing
Colossians 3:17 - And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Build My Life
Worthy of every song we could ever sing
Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
We live for You
Jesus the name above every other name
Jesus the only one who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
We live for You
Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
And show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me
Jesus the name above every other name
Jesus the only one who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
We live for You
Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
And show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me
I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken
I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken
Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
And show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me
