Confession & Forgivness

Pastor: God calls you and me into a close relationship with Him. Join me as we confess our life struggles and shortcomings to the Lord.

All: Lord, I am easily discouraged. I have deprived myself of hearing the Bible’s promise of Your love and forgiveness, no matter what I have said and done. I confess today that I have not followed the guidance and direction You give in Your Word. I have not spent time with You. My commitment to personal Spiritual growth is flawed. Forgive me these and all of my sins for the sake of my Savior, Jesus. Amen.

Pastor:  Your Heavenly Father has heard your confession and has placed your sin upon Jesus who gave His life on the cross so that you and I could have life. Your sins are forgiven in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. God cares deeply about you. He desires to spend time with you.  Your faith will grow as you read God’s Word.

O Holy Spirit Enter In (LW 160)

O Holy Spirit enter in
And in our hearts your work begin
Your dwelling place now make us
Sun of the soul O Light divine
Around and in us brightly shine
To joy and gladness wake us
That we may be truly living
To You giving prayer unceasing
And in love be still increasing

Give to Your Word impressive power
That in our hearts from this good hour
As fire it may be glowing
That in true Christian unity
We faithful witnesses may be
Your glory ever showing
Hear us cheer us by Your teaching
Let our preaching and our labor
Praise You Lord and serve our neighbor

O Mighty Rock O Source of life
Let Your dear Word in doubt and strife
In us be strongly burning
That we be faithful unto death
And live in love and holy faith
From You true wisdom learning
Your grace and peace on us shower
By Your power Christ confessing
Let us see our Saviors blessing

Scripture Reading (Psalm 78:1-7)

Pastor: O my people, listen to my teaching.  Open your ears to what I am saying, I will teach you hidden lessons from our past;

All: stories we have heard and know, stories our ancestors handed down to us.

Pastor: We will not hide these truths from our children but will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord.

All: We will tell of his power and the mighty miracles he did.

Pastor: For He issued his laws to Jacob; He gave His instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, so the next generation might know them – even the children not yet born – that they in turn might teach their children.

All: So each generation can set its hope anew on God, remembering his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.

STP Kids Dismissal

STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: Focused

A life verse is a powerful, clarifying tool when it comes to simplifying our lives

Jeremiah 29:11 - “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Philippians 2:1-5 - Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Psalm 16:11 - You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Amos 5:24 - Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!

John 15:5 - “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Action Step

Where to look for a good Life Verse: your Bible, search keywords in an online Bible, a book that lists God’s promises by categories, an online search by topic, or a Bible promise app. You may also pick up a copy of a Life Verse Catalog at the Welcome Center or view it below.

A Life Verse

John wrote in his gospel, “These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.”

Please join me as we confess our faith proclaiming the name of our powerful God.

Apostles Creed

All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate. Was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell.  The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church,  the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Cornerstone

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus' Name

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus' Name

Christ alone cornerstone
Weak made strong
In the Savior’s love
Through the storm
He is Lord Lord of all

When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veil

Christ alone cornerstone
Weak made strong
In the Savior’s love
Through the storm
He is Lord Lord of all

Christ alone cornerstone
Weak made strong
In the Savior’s love
Through the storm
He is Lord Lord of all

When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless stand before the throne

Christ alone cornerstone
Weak made strong
In the Savior’s love
Through the storm
He is Lord Lord of all

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you!

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Psalm 119:105 - Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.

Be Thou My Vision

Be Thou my Vision O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought by day or by night
Waking or sleeping Thy presence my light

Be Thou my Wisdom and Thou my true Word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me Lord
Thou my great Father I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling and I with Thee one

Riches I heed not nor man’s empty praise
Thou mine Inheritance now and always
Thou and Thou only be first in my heart
High King of Heaven my Treasure Thou art

High King of Heaven my victory won
May I reach Heaven’s joys O bright Heaven’s Sun
Heart of my own heart whatever befall
Still be my Vision O Ruler of all
Heart of my own heart whatever befall
Still be my Vision O Ruler of all
