Greeting and Announcements

When you get to the end of your life, you will ask yourself the same two questions: Am I right with my family? Am I right with God? Then in your death bed, you will experience joy, peace, and satisfaction. And you will have left a rich legacy for others to follow. Want to Simplify? Don’t chase the wind by spending all your time on meaningless pursuits.

A Legacy

Pastor: Scripture records many individuals who left a legacy of faith. They are remembered because they realized the world with all its riches could not provide satisfaction. Instead, each trusted in God:

All: By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, built an ark to save his family. (Hebrews 11:7)

Pastor: By faith Abraham, when called to go, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. (Hebrews 11:8)

All: By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future. (Hebrews 11:20)

Pastor: By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; (Hebrews 11:29)

All: By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days. (Hebrews 11:30)

Pastor: Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. (Hebrews 11:1-2)

Fight The Good Fight

Fight the good fight with all your might
Christ is your strength and Christ your right
Lay hold on life and it shall be
Your joy and crown eternally

Run the straight race through God's good grace
Lift up your eyes and seek His face
Life with its way before us lies
Christ is the path and Christ the prize

Cast care aside lean on your guide
His boundless mercy will provide
Trust and enduring faith shall prove
Christ is your life and Christ your love

Faint not nor fear His arms are near
He changes not who holds you dear
Only believe and you will see
That Christ is all eternally

Scripture Reading

Ecclesiastes 1:2-14 - “Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” What do people gain from all their labors at which they toil under the sun? Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever. The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises. The wind blows to the south and turns to the north; round and round it goes, ever returning on its course. All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from, there they return again. All things are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing. What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, “Look! This is something new”? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. No one remembers the former generations, and even those yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow them. I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens. What a heavy burden God has laid on mankind! I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

STP Kids Dismissal

STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: Your Legacy

How satisfied am I with my income?
How satisfied am I with my relationships?
How satisfied am I with my home? With my car?
How satisfied am I with my accomplishments?

Ecclesiastes 1:2 - “Meaningless! Meaningless!”…“Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.”

Ecclesiastes 1:17 - “…chasing after the wind”

Ecclesiastes 2:4-6, 10-11 - I undertook great projects: I built houses for myself and planted vineyards. I made gardens and parks and planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. I made reservoirs to water groves of flourishing trees….I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my labor, and this was the reward for all my toil. Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus' Name

Christ alone cornerstone
Weak made strong
In the Savior’s love
Through the storm
He is Lord Lord of all

When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veil

Christ alone cornerstone
Weak made strong
In the Savior’s love
Through the storm
He is Lord Lord of all

When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless stand before the throne

Christ alone cornerstone
Weak made strong
In the Savior’s love
Through the storm
He is Lord Lord of all

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

Confession and Forgiveness

Pastor: When that time comes, what will you be remembered for? I invite you to confess your sins and ask God for strength to leave a legacy.

All: Lord, my focus far too often is on money and things. The impact that I have made in others lives is somewhat shallow. I have lived for myself and have made myself absent by devoting my life to what would get me ahead. Forgive me Lord. Help me be honest about seeking satisfaction in meaningless places.

Pastor: God doesn’t give up on you. He never will. He sent His Son to restore your relationship with God and others. Remember, there’s one thing that’s far more valuable—a legacy of faith. Because of His fulfilling love, you and I can stop chasing after the wind and live in the satisfaction that only faith brings.

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Philippians 1:6 - Be confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Come Thou Fount

Come Thou Fount of ev'ry blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Here I raise my Ebenezer
Hither by Thy help I come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wand'ring from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

Oh to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let Thy goodness like a fetter
Bind my wand'ring heart to Thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above
Here's my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Here's my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above
