Greeting & Announcements

Jesus was the first missionary sent to the earth. He was sent from the comfort of heaven to a dark, sinful world. His coming changed everything. You are also sent into your neighborhood. Are you ready for your mission?

Invocation

Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Pastor: Through the Gospel, the Holy Spirit has called us out of the darkness, opened our eyes, and brought us into his marvelous light.

All: God loved us so much He sent His Son to the earth. He sent His Son to be our Savior.

Pastor: Men, women, girls, boys – He sends us into our neighborhood. He has enlightened us with His gifts, sanctified and kept us in the true faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.

All: I praise Him for His Grace!  I sing for all He has done for me.

This is Amazing Grace

Who breaks the power of sin and darkness
Whose love is mighty and so much stronger
The King of Glory the King above all kings

Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder
And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder
The King of Glory the King above all kings

This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You laid down Your life
That I would be set free
Oh Jesus I sing for all that You've done for me

Who brings our chaos back into order
Who makes the orphan a son and daughter
The King of Glory the King of Glory

Who rules the nations with truth and justice
Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance
The King of Glory the King above all kings

This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You laid down Your life
That I would be set free
Oh Jesus I sing for all that You've done for me

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy worthy worthy

This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You laid down Your life
That I would be set free
Oh Jesus I sing for all that You've done for me

Scripture Reading

Matthew 9:35-38 - Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

STP KIDS Dismissal

STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: Out There vs. Out Here

Romans 10:13-15 - “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

John 17:18  - As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.

OUT THERE vs. OUT HERE.”

John 20:21 - Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

John 20:22-23 - And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

Action Step

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

Confession & Forgiveness

Pastor: Our help is in the name of the Lord,

All: the maker of heaven and earth. (Psalm 124:8)

Pastor: If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.  (Psalm 130:3–4)

All: Lord, You have sent me to my neighbors, but I have resisted. I avoid the messiness of the world around me. Rather than entering into the lives of those who live beside me, I have stayed in the comfort of the Church. Forgive me for my failure to share Your grace. Make me bold to enter into the darkness in order to proclaim the light.

Pastor: Be confident of our Lord's grace, mercy, and forgiveness. He loves you and He loves those around you. Just as Jesus was sent into the world, you and I have also been sent. Filled with His Spirit, may each of us enter the world around us. Come, receive the life and strength provided by Christ's body and blood.

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

A Pledge of Those Who Are Sent

All: In fervent gratitude for the Savior’s dying love and his blood-bought gift of redemption, we dedicate ourselves to Him with all that we are and have; and in obedience to His call for workers in the harvest fields, we pledge Him our willing service wherever and whenever He has need of us. We consecrate to our Savior our hands to work for Him, our feet to go on His errands, our silver and our gold to extend His Kingdom, our will to do His will, and every power of our life to the great task of bringing the lost and the erring into eternal fellowship with Him. Amen

(The LWML Pledge)

Blessing

John 20:21 - Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

We Are

Every secret every shame
Every fear every pain
Live inside the dark
But that's not who we are
We are children of the day

So wake up sleeper lift your head
We were meant for more than this
Fight the shadows conquer death
Make the most of the time we have left

We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
And we gotta we gotta we gotta

Let the light shine
We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
And we gotta we gotta we gotta
Let the light shine

We are called to spread the news
To tell the world the simple truth
Jesus came to save there's freedom in His name
So let His love break through

We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
And we gotta we gotta we gotta
Let the light shine

We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
And we gotta we gotta we gotta
Let the light shine

We are the light we are the light we are the light
So let your light shine brighter
