Greeting & Announcements

At Thanksgiving, we truly love our neighborhoods. In fact, for 175 years, the congregations of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) has been doing neighborhood ministry! St. Peter's started serving the people of the Edina area in 1929, and today we continue to care and welcome and meet the needs of those who are closest to us.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving

Pastor: Heavenly Father, we give thanks that for 175 years in the congregations of our Synod, You have richly and daily forgiven the sins of believers. We give thanks for Jesus Christ who alone is our salvation.

All: Keep us in the one true faith and bless us as we share that faith with our neighbors so all may call upon the name that is above all other names, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

The Church’s One Foundation

The Church's one foundation
Is Jesus Christ her Lord
She is His new creation
By water and the Word
From Heaven He came and sought her
To be His holy bride
With His own blood He bought her
And for her life He died

Elect from every nation
Yet one o'er all the earth
Her charter of salvation
One Lord one faith one birth
One holy name she blesses
Partakes one holy food
And to one hope she presses
With every grace endued

Through toil and tribulation
And tumult of her war
She waits the consummation
Of peace forevermore
Till with the vision glorious
Her longing eyes are blest
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest

Yet she on earth has union
With God the Three in one
And mystic sweet communion
With those whose rest is won
O blessed heavenly chorus
Lord save us by Your grace
That we like saints before us
May see You face to face

Scripture Reading

Matthew 25:31-46 - “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life. ”

STP KIDS Dismissal

STP KIDS is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: Still Making History

Matthew 25:34-36 - “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

Action Step

Matthew 25:40 - “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

Matthew 25:46 - “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life. ”

Confession & Forgiveness

Pastor: Jesus foretold that He will judge us by how they treated our neighbors - including the hungry, strangers, and prisoners.

All: We confess that we have not always sought to share Your love and meet the needs of the people around us. We cannot change without Your grace, mercy, and strength. Forgive us, O Lord.

Pastor: Rejoice! The One who comes to judge is the same Jesus who is the one who gave His body and shed His blood for you on the cross. He is the first to rise from death, and by His grace we shall follow Him to His eternal kingdom. He motivates us to serve others with His compassion at work in our neighborhoods. As a called and ordained servant of Christ and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

A Mighty Fortress

A mighty fortress is our God
A sword and shield victorious
He breaks the cruel oppressors rod
And wins salvation glorious
The old satanic foe
Has sworn to work us woe
With craft and dreadful might
He arms himself to fight
On earth he has no equal

No strength of ours can match his might
We would be lost rejected
But now a champion comes to fight
Whom God Himself elected
You ask who this may be
The Lord of hosts is He
Christ Jesus mighty Lord
Gods only Son adored
He holds the field victorious

Though hordes of devils fill the land
All threatening to devour us
We tremble not unmoved we stand
They cannot overpower us
Let this worlds tyrant rage
In battle we'll engage
His might is doomed to fail
Gods judgement must prevail
One little word can fell him

Gods Word forever shall abide
No thanks to foes who fear it
For God Himself fights by our side
With weapons of the Spirit
Were they to take our house
Goods honor child or spouse
Though life be wrenched away
They cannot win the day
The Kingdoms ours forever

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 - May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

Praise To The Lord

Praise to the Lord the Almighty
The King of creation
O my soul praise Him
For He is your health and salvation
Let all who hear
Now to His temple draw near
Joining in glad adoration

Praise to the Lord
Who o'er all things is wondrously reigning
And as on wings of an eagle
Uplifting sustaining
Have you not seen
All that is needful has been
Sent by His gracious ordaining

Praise to the Lord
Who will prosper your work and defend you
Surely His goodness and mercy
Shall daily attend you
Ponder anew
What the Almighty can do
As with His love He befriends you

Praise to the Lord
O let all that is in me adore Him
All that has life and breath
Come now with praises before Him
Let the Amen
Sound from His people again
Gladly forever adore Him
