Greeting & Announcements

We all want to be happy. But it sure seems like happiness quickly comes and goes. Jesus explained that true happiness is found in what we have been through. Then we will know that we are truly blessed.

Call To Worship

Pastor: Everyone wants to be happy. But sometimes life can be difficult and disappointing. There is conflict, bitterness, jealousy, impatience everywhere.

All: Jesus teaches us about the blessings that He gives to us that bring happiness:

Pastor:

...you are blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. God takes care of those who realize their need for Him.

...you are blessed when you feel you have lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be comforted.

…you are blessed when you find yourself content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.

...you are blessed when you hunger and thirst for what is right. You will be satisfied.

...you are blessed when you care. It is then you find yourselves cared for.

...you are blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God at work all around you.

...you are blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That’s when you will be called a child of God.

...you are blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God’s kingdom.

All: Thank you Lord for helping us see the blessings you give!

'Cause I've seen this fight from the victory

You never fail
You never will
I trust Your name
For greater things
You will come through
You always do
I trust Your name
For greater things

Scripture Reading

Matthew 5:1-12 (The Beatitudes)

Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Are you happy?

Prayer

Pastor: Blessed Lord, You have chosen to bless us beyond all measure, though we are not worthy of Your grace. For this we give You our thanks and praise. May we live out Your blessing in every way.

All: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God.

Pastor: Lord, You remove us from the desperate places that burden our hearts.  Thank You, Lord, for blessing us with Your gracious rule.

All: Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Pastor: Lord, when we suffer losses, Your presence brings us comfort. We realize that what seems so dear to us may not be as dear to You. Fill us with Your blessings of comfort and peace.

All: Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

Pastor: Lord, when we are content with who we are and what we have, when we are modest and unassuming, meek and lowly---then Lord, You bless us, for we embrace who we really are: Your children, created by You and redeemed by You. Thank You, Lord, for blessing us with meekness.

All: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Pastor: Lord, when we find no satisfaction, no fullness, in the things of this world, You bless us with a hunger and thirst to be filled with You. For in You we find true fullness, of joy, of peace, of love, and of righteousness. Thank You, Lord, for blessing us with a hunger and thirst for You.

All: Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Pastor: Lord, You have blessed us with the desire and the ability to show mercy to others, for You have been merciful to us. In caring for others, we also are cared for and find mercy. Show Your mercy, Lord, especially to those we name in our hearts. Thank You, Lord, for blessing us with Your mercy, that we may be merciful to others.

All: Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Pastor: Lord, You graciously cleanse us with Your forgiveness, refreshing us with pure hearts and minds.  May we see You, Lord, more and more each day. Thank You, Lord, for blessing us with purity of heart and mind.

All: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

Pastor: Lord, You have blessed us with peace that the world cannot give, so that peace may be magnified among us and our troubled world. As Your sons and daughters, make us instrument of Your peace.

All: Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Pastor: Lord, Your divine blessings surpass the world's concept of blessedness.  How can we be blessed when we are persecuted?  Yet even when our deep love and commitment to You causes us to be hated and hurt by our world, we know that through it we are driven even deeper into Your kingdom, and our love for You grows, and our dependence on You increases.  Thank You, Lord, for blessing us, even through persecution.

All: Blessed Lord, we rejoice and are glad in the blessing You give.  Amen.

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

Confession & Forgiveness

All: O most holy God, most merciful Father, I call you Lord, but do not always live as though you are my Lord. You have called me into a relationship with You. Sometimes I do not live within that relationship. I have gone my own way, and have not lived in obedient love to You. Cleanse my heart, and renew Your blessing within me.

Pastor: Christ, our Lord, said of Himself “The Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” To those who believe in Him who receive Him as Savior, there is forgiveness, and the power to live a new happy life.

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Ephesians 1:3 - Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

See A Victory

The weapon may be formed but it won't prosper
When the darkness falls it won't prevail
'Cause the God I serve knows only how to triumph
My God will never fail
My God will never fail

I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You Lord
I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You Lord

There's power in the mighty Name of Jesus
Every war He wages He will win
I'm not backing down from any giant
I know how this story ends
I know how this story ends

I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You Lord
I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You Lord

You take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for good
You take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for goodYou take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for good
You take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for good

I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You Lord
I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You Lord
