Greeting

Do I display a healthy curiosity about what I might learn from the wisdom of those whom God has brought into my life? Today we seek Shalom in community.

Invocation & Call to Worship

Brothers and sisters, think about the things that are good and worthy of praise.
Think about the things that are true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected.
Do what you learned and received from me, what I told you, and what you saw me do.
And the God who gives peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9

Prayer for Curiosity

ALL: Holy Spirit, open the eyes of my heart and the ears of my soul, so that I might learn today. As we, together, worship and study the Word, fill me with curiosity. Teach me what You would teach me. Reveal truth to my heart. Quiet the doubts that rise up inside of me. You have placed us in community with others. Help me to observe in others what You would have me see and listen to what You would have me hear. Bless Your Church and all of us as we gather with curiosity today. May Your Light shine though me. Amen.

We Are

Every secret every shame
Every fear every pain
Live inside the dark
But that's not who we are
We are children of the day

So wake up sleeper lift your head
We were meant for more than this
Fight the shadows conquer death
Make the most of the time we have left

We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
And we gotta we gotta we gotta
Let the light shine
We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
And we gotta we gotta we gotta
Let the light shine

Let the light shine
Let the light shine

We are called to spread the news
To tell the world the simple truth
Jesus came to save
There's freedom in His name
So let His love break through

We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
And we gotta we gotta we gotta
Let the light shine
We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
And we gotta we gotta we gotta
Let the light shine

We are the light
We are the light
We are the light
So let your light shine brighter
We are the light
We are the light
We are the light
Jesus
You are the light
You are the light
You are the light
We will lift You high
And shine shine shine

We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
And we gotta we gotta we gotta
Let the light shine
We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
And we gotta we gotta we gotta
Let the light shine

Let the light shine
Let the light shine
Let the light shine
Let the light shine

Scripture Reading

Ephesians 4:29 - Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

STP Kids Dismissal

STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: Curiosity

Acts 10:2 - He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly.

Acts 10:5-6 - “Now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter. He is staying with Simon the tanner, whose house is by the sea.”

Acts 10:10-15 - He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.” “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.” The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

Acts 10:19-20 - “Simon, three men are looking for you. So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”

Ephesians 4:29 - Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

John 1:43, 45-49 - The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.” Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip. When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.” Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”

Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

ALL: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer of the Church

ALL: Lord God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen

Blessing

2 Peter 1:2 - Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

Christ Be Magnified

Were creation suddenly articulate
With a thousand tongues to lift one cry
From north to south and east to west
We'd hear Christ be magnified

Were the whole earth echoing His eminence
His name would burst from sea and sky
From rivers to the mountain tops
We'd hear Christ be magnified

O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me

When every creature finds its inmost melody
And every human heart its native cry
Then in one enraptured hymn of praise
We'll sing Christ be magnified

O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me

I won't bow to idols
I'll stand strong and worship You
And if it puts me in the fire
I'll rejoice 'cause You're there too
I won't be formed by feelings
I’ll hold fast to what is true
If the cross brings transformation
Then I'll be crucified with You
'Cause death is just the doorway
Into resurrection life
If I join You in Your suffering
Then I'll join You when You rise
And when You return in glory
With all the angels and the saints
My heart will still be singing
My song will be the same

O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me
