Words To Live By - Disciple
Welcome!
Today's Word to Live By is DISCIPLE.
What exactly is a disciple? What does that word mean? The simplest definition is that a disciple is a “learner”. A disciple is a disciple as long as learning is taking place. In order for there to be a learner, there must always be a teacher. Who was the teacher of the 12 disciples?

And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me

Jesus the only one who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You

Welcome
Invocational Greeting
2 Peter 1:1-2 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
Disciple’s Proclamation
Matthew 16:16 Along with Peter, we proclaim:
You are the Christ! You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!
Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate. Was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Confession and Forgiveness
O most merciful and loving God,
Since You have given Your only-begotten Son to die for us, have mercy on us, and for His sake grant us forgiveness of all our sins; and by Your Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of You and of Your will, and true obedience to Your Word, to the end that by Your grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Peter’s Statement of Faith
Acts 4:12-13 “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

Scripture Reading
Luke 6:12-16 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles: Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
STP Kids Dismissal
STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!
Message: Disciple
What would happen if we returned to Jesus’ method of making disciples?
Mark 3:14 He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach
Luke 5:1-11 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Blessing
John 15:8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

Prayer Requests
“Disciple” Many heard Jesus - few followed. The same could be said for today. May we be numbered among Jesus’ disciples!
Pray circles around our Exploration Task Force. This group of men and women are lending a listening ear and providing an analysis of information regarding the exploration opportunities. May the Spirit grant them discernment.
Pray that the Lord will surround St. Peter’s with protection and healing for those battling the latest COVID-19 variant.
Pray for Jamie Grimm as she spends the next 5 months as an exchange student at Hansei University just outside Seoul, Korea. She asks for safe travels / staying overall healthy while away / for God to give her the diligence and abilities to do well in her studies / for God to open up new opportunities in South Korea to strengthen her faith and grow closer to Him. Jamie has now arrived in South Korea and is in mandatory quarantine.

John Roegge
Long-time St. Peter’s member John Roegge passed away at age 90 on February 2nd in Naples, Florida which had been his home for twenty years. John was a former President of the St Peter’s congregation but recognized that he was – appropriately – better known as husband of Marilyn Roegge who taught in the St Peter’s elementary school for 30 years before her untimely death in 1995. He is survived by son Fritz (and wife Julie) of Philadelphia, PA and grandsons Alex and Will; daughter Mary Richardson (and husband John) of Denver, CO; and daughter Sarah Gunhouse (and husband Gerard) of Atlanta, GA. Memorials will be directed to St. Peter’s. Details of a Spring-time memorial service will be announced once determined.
Pastor Led Bible Class
No class this morning so you can attend the Voters’ Assembly. Next week, you are invited to join with Pastor Dave and fellow worshipers to study the Sunday texts more in depth. Examine the context to see the setting of the story. Be challenged to apply Biblical truth to your life. At 10:30am in the Discipleship Room to the right as you exit the sanctuary. Bring a cup of coffee and pick up a treat to enjoy on your way in. Life Application Bibles are provided for your study.
Voters’ Assembly February 6
Our regular February Voters’ Assembly will be held today, Sunday, February 6 following the worship service. Since March 2021, we have been exploring a partnership with AbleLight (formerly Bethesda) to build a multi-family community on our property. This new facility will serve the community, intentionally including people with disabilities, providing space for worship and other church activities. After a number of Town Hall meetings and meetings with the St. Peter’s / AbleLight exploration task force, we are ready to take the next step and negotiate the terms of the sale. To proceed with this next step, it is necessary for AbleLight to obtain an Option to Purchase Agreement from St. Peter’s. This Option to Purchase agreement simply states that St. Peter’s will work with AbleLight on the terms of a formal Purchase Agreement and not entertain any other offers for our property. Because this Option to Purchase Agreement involves the potential sale of our real estate, this Agreement must come before the members for a vote. This meeting includes a financial update and a discussion and vote on the Option to Purchase Agreement.
