Words To Live By - Alone

Welcome!

Today's Word to Live By is ALONE.

Jesus often withdrew to be alone to pray. Our generation calls that quiet time. Maybe you recognize it as devotion time. Jesus needed this alone time… so do you!

ORDER OF WORSHIP

How Great Is Our God

The splendor of the King
Clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice
All the earth rejoice
He wraps Himself in light
And darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
And trembles at His voice

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God

And age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the End
Beginning and the End
The Godhead three in one
Father Spirit Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God

Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God
Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God

Welcome

Holy Spirit

There's nothing worth more
That will ever come close
No thing can compare
You're our living hope
Your Presence Lord

I've tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your Presence Lord

Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord
Your Presence Lord

There's nothing worth more
That will ever come close
No thing can compare
You're our living hope
Your Presence Lord

I've tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your Presence Lord

Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord
Your Presence Lord

Let us become more aware of Your Presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness
Let us become more aware of Your Presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness
Let us become more aware of Your Presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness

Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord

Scripture Reading

Luke 5:12-16 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him. Then Jesus ordered him, “Don’t tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

STP Kids Dismissal

STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: Alone

Luke 5:16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

Matthew 14:23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone

Luke 4:42 At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them.

Mark 6:31-32 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.

Luke 6:12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.

Luke 22:39-41 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed

John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Prayer

Communion

The Lord’s Supper is celebrated at this congregation in the confession and glad confidence that, as He says, our Lord gives into our mouths not only bread and wine but His very body and blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with him and with one another. Our Lord invites to His table those who trust His words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us, that they may show forth His death until He comes.

Because those who eat and drink our Lord’s body and blood unworthily do so to their great harm and because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of this congregation and The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, and yet desire to receive the sacrament, are asked first to speak with the pastor. (see 1 Corinthians 11)

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Mark 6:31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Lord I Need You

Lord I come I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You're the one that guides my heart

Lord I need You
Oh I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense
My righteousness
Oh God how I need You

Where sin runs deep
Your grace is more
Where grace is found
Is where You are
And where You are
Lord I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

Lord I need You
Oh I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense
My righteousness
Oh God how I need You

So teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I'll fall on You
Jesus You're my hope and stay

Lord I need You
Oh I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense
My righteousness
Oh God how I need You
You're my one defense
My righteousness
Oh God how I need You

My one defense
My righteousness
Oh God how I need You

Pastor Led Bible Class

Every Sunday you are invited to join with Pastor Dave and fellow worshipers to study the Sunday texts more in depth. Examine the context to see the setting of the story. Be challenged to apply Biblical truth to your life. At 10:30am in the Discipleship Room to the right as you exit the sanctuary. Bring a cup of coffee and pick up a treat to enjoy on your way in. Life Application Bibles are provided for your study. Jesus spent time alone in the Scriptures. Dig in.

Intersections

They are places where faith and real life meet. Here at St. Peter's, we are beginning some short workshops that will prepare you to live out our faith in practical ways. Intersections are brief 15-minute workshops where Pastor Mark will present a brief insight with a few suggestions to help you apply it. They will all be online so there will be no travel. Participate from anywhere. Each Intersection will be live and participatory. 8:00am on the even Saturdays every month (not the odd Saturdays!) Here is the Zoom Link.
The first Intersections:

  • I'm Sorry: being honest with God and others - February 26

  • Email: getting control of your email... so it doesn't control you - March 12

  • The Blessing: learn how to bless your loved ones this spring - March 26

  • Households: the Bible mentions households over 2000 times - define your influence - April 2
