Words To Live By - Love

Welcome!

Today's Word to Live By is LOVE.

So much about what Jesus asks of us is so opposite of what we would expect. The way we want to treat those who mistreat us - the way we convince ourselves how we should act toward those who wrong us - is just the opposite of what Jesus tells us today.

ORDER OF WORSHIP

Where Charity And Love Prevail

Where charity and love prevail
There God is ever found
Brought here together by Christs love
By love are we thus bound

With grateful joy and holy fear
True charity we learn
Let us with heart and mind and strength
Now love Christ in return

Forgive we now each others faults
As we our faults confess
Let us love each other well
In Christian holiness

Let strife among us be unknown
Let all contention cease
Be Christ the glory that we seek
Be ours Christ's holy peace

Welcome

O God Of Mercy God Of Might

O God of mercy God of light
In love and mercy infinite
Teach us as ever in Your sight
To live our lives in You

Teach us the lesson Jesus taught
To feel for those His blood has bought
That every deed and word and thought
May work a work for You

For all are kindred far and wide
Since Jesus Christ for all has died
Grant us the will and grace provide
To love them all in You

In sickness sorrow want or care
Each others burdens help us share
May we where help is needed there
Give help as though to you

Scripture Reading

Luke 6:27-36 “But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. “If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

Message: Love

Romans 5:8-10 God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son

Confession of Sins

Pastor: Let us confess our sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love You and worthily magnify Your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

People: Most merciful God, we confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves; We have not prayed for those who have offended us. For the sake of your son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

Pastor: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for you, and for His sake God forgives you all your sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ He gives the power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Philippians 1:9-11 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Lord Of Glory You Have Bought Us

Lord of glory You have bought us
With Your lifeblood as the price
Never grudging for the lost ones
That tremendous sacrifice
And with that have freely given
Blessings countless as the sand
To the unthankful and the evil
With Your own unsparing hand

Grant us hearts dear Lord
To give gladly freely of Your own
With the sunshine of Your goodness
Melt our thankless hearts of stone
Till our cold and selfish natures
Warmed by You at length believe
That more happy and more blessed
'Tis to give than to receive

Wondrous honor You have given
To our humblest charity
In Your own mysterious sentence
You have done it all to Me
Can it be O gracious Master
That You deign for alms to sue
Saying by Your poor and needy
Give as I have given to you

Lord of glory You have bought us
With Your lifeblood as the price
Never grudging for the lost ones
That tremendous sacrifice
Give us faith to trust You boldly
Hope to stay our souls on You
But oh best of all Your graces
With Your love our love renew

Pastor Led Bible Class

Every Sunday you are invited to join with Pastor Dave and fellow worshipers to study the Sunday texts more in depth. Examine the context to see the setting of the story. Be challenged to apply Biblical truth to your life. At 10:30am in the Discipleship Room to the right as you exit the sanctuary. Bring a cup of coffee and pick up a treat to enjoy on your way in. Life Application Bibles are provided for your study. Jesus spent time alone in the Scriptures. Dig in.

Intersections

They are places where faith and real life meet. Here at St. Peter's, we are beginning some short workshops that will prepare you to live out our faith in practical ways. Intersections are brief 15-minute workshops where Pastor Mark will present a brief insight with a few suggestions to help you apply it. They will all be online so there will be no travel. Participate from anywhere. Each Intersection will be live and participatory. 8:00am on the even Saturdays every month (not the odd Saturdays!) Here is the Zoom Link.
The first Intersections:

  • I'm Sorry: being honest with God and others - February 26

  • Email: getting control of your email... so it doesn't control you - March 12

  • The Blessing: learn how to bless your loved ones this spring - March 26

  • Households: the Bible mentions households over 2000 times - define your influence - April 2
