Words To Live By - Faith

Welcome!

It is easy to be overwhelmed and discouraged when we face struggles and find ourselves waiting. In those moments all we can see is our troubles. We look down. Jesus meets us in our moments where everything seems senseless. Faith looks up! Faith is the Christian’s confidence. Faith is an unswerving belief. Faith claims. Faith trusts. Faith expects.

Today’s word to live by: FAITH

Thanks for joining us this morning! We’re so glad you’re here with us. If you’re new here and want to find out a bit more about our service, have questions, or want to connect, click the button below.

ORDER OF WORSHIP

Resurrecting

The head that once was crowned with thorns
Is crowned with glory now
The Savior knelt to wash our feet
Now at his feet we bow

The fear that held us now gives way
To him who is our peace
His final breath upon the cross
Is now alive in me

Your name Your name is victory
All praise will rise to Christ our king
Your name Your name is victory
All praise will rise to Christ our king

By your spirit I will rise
From the ashes of defeat
The resurrected king
Is resurrecting me
In your name I come alive
To declare your victory
The resurrected king
Is resurrecting me
By your spirit I will rise
From the ashes of defeat
The resurrected king
Is resurrecting me
In your name I come alive
To declare your victory
The resurrected king
Is resurrecting me

The tomb where soldiers watched in vain
Was borrowed for three days
His body there would not remain
Our God has robbed the grave
Our God has robbed the grave

Your name Your name is victory
All praise will rise to Christ our king

By your spirit I will rise
From the ashes of defeat
The resurrected king
Is resurrecting me
The resurrected king
Is resurrecting me

Greeting

Yes I Will

I count on one thing
The same God that never fails
Will not fail me now
You won't fail me now
In the waiting
The same God who's never late
Is working all things out
You're working all things out

Yes I will lift You high
In the lowest valley
Yes I will bless Your name
Yes I will sing for joy
When my heart is heavy
All my days yes I will

I count on one thing
The same God that never fails
Will not fail me now
You won't fail me now
In the waiting
The same God who's never late
Is working all things out
You're working all things out

Yes I will lift You high
In the lowest valley
Yes I will bless Your name
Yes I will sing for joy
When my heart is heavy
All my days yes I will
For all my days yes I will

I choose to praise
To glorify glorify
The name of all names
That nothing can stand against
I choose to praise
To glorify glorify
The name of all names
That nothing can stand against
I choose to praise
To glorify glorify
The name of all names
That nothing can stand against
I choose to praise
To glorify glorify
The name of all names
That nothing can stand against

Yes I will lift You high
In the lowest valley
Yes I will bless Your name
Yes I will sing for joy
When my heart is heavy
All my days yes I will
For all my days yes I will
For all my days yes I will

Scripture Reading

Luke 24:13-27 - Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him. He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?” They stood still, their faces downcast. One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” “What things?” he asked. “About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.” He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

STP Kids Dismissal

STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: Faith

Luke 24:25-27 - He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

Luke 24:31 - Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight.

Luke 24:28-32 - As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

Profession of Faith

Pastor: People of God, based upon what you have heard about this Jesus, what do you believe?
People: I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord!

Pastor: Why do you call Him “Lord”?
People: He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death and from the power of the devil; not with gold and silver, but with His holy, precious blood, and His innocent suffering and death.

Pastor: Why should He have done this for you?
People: That I may be His own, and live under Him in His kingdom, and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness.

Pastor: Is what you proclaim to believe true?
People: Even as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity, this is most certainly true!

Prayer

Confession of Sin

People: Almighty God, merciful Father, forgive us for living based on what we can see rather than by faith in the reality established by Your Word. Forgive us for listening to the voices of the world, the opinions of others, and to our own sinful nature rather than to the living voice of Jesus in the Scriptures. This we ask for the sake of Jesus Christ who shed His precious blood for us on the cross.

Communion

The Lord’s Supper is celebrated at this congregation in the confession and glad confidence that, as He says, our Lord gives into our mouths not only bread and wine but His very body and blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with him and with one another. Our Lord invites to His table those who trust His words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us, that they may show forth His death until He comes.

Because those who eat and drink our Lord’s body and blood unworthily do so to their great harm and because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of this congregation and The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, and yet desire to receive the sacrament, are asked first to speak with the pastor. (see 1 Corinthians 11)

The Lord’s Prayer

People: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Hebrews 11:1 - Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Do It Again

Walking around these walls
I thought by now they'd fall
But you have never failed me yet
Waiting for change to come
Knowing the battle's won
For you have never failed me yet

Your promise still stands
Great is your faithfulness
Faithfulness
I'm still in your hands
This is my confidence
You've never failed me yet

I know the night won't last
Your word will come to pass
My heart will sing your praise again
Jesus you're still enough
Keep me within your love
My heart will sing your praise again

Your promise still stands
Great is your faithfulness
Faithfulness
I'm still in your hands
This is my confidence
You've never failed
Your promise still stands
Great is your faithfulness
Faithfulness
I'm still in your hands
This is my confidence
You've never failed me yet

I've seen you move
You move the mountains
And I believe
I'll see you do it again
You made a way
Where there was no way
And I believe
I'll see you do it again
I've seen you move
You move the mountains
And I believe
I'll see you do it again
You made a way
Where there was no way
And I believe
I'll see you do it again
I've seen you move
You move the mountains
And I believe
I'll see you do it again
You made a way
Where there was no way
And I believe
I'll see you do it again
I'll see you do it again

You've never failed me yet
I never will forget
You've never failed me yet
I never will forget

St. Peter’s Community

Prayer Requests

  • Give glory to God for the largest post-pandemic worship to date as we gathered last week to celebrate the Resurrection of our Savior! What a privilege we have to worship the Lord.

  • Pray circles around Creek Knoll. Spring is here. Why not take a walk up and down the streets around St. Peter’s praying for neighbors? Ask God to help many with fears understand what AbleLight Village – Edina could accomplish.

  • Give thanks to God for the support of our community. 21 members of St. Peter’s were present for the City Council meeting last week along with over 100 Edina residents who support our effort to serve those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Pray for continued openness and creativity in working together to assist families.

Pastor Led Sunday Bible Class

We had to add two tables - now there is room for you! Every Sunday you are invited to join with fellow worshipers to study the Sunday texts more in depth. Examine the context to see the setting of the story. Be challenged to apply Biblical truth to your life. At 10:30am in the Discipleship Room to the right as you exit the sanctuary. Bring a cup of coffee and pick up a treat to enjoy on your way in. Life Application Bibles are provided for your study. Jesus appeared to many after the resurrection. Open your eyes to see Him!

Red Cross Blood Drive

For the 9th time, St. Peter’s & the Veterans Rotary Club that we host are sponsoring another blood drive here in the sanctuary on Thursday, April 28 from 1-7pm. As of this morning only one appointment at 6:45pm remains to give blood. We have had to turn away people at the door. So sign up today here. Another way to participate is with the gathering of clothing, food, and electronics to recycle for veterans. Bring those items that day as well.

Mother & Baby Supplies

At the Blood Drive, we have also added a Mother’s Day drive supporting the health of mothers and young children. We are seeking maternity clothes (all sizes and seasons), baby wipes, bath, shampoo, skin care, healing ointment, diapers (sizes 2-5), baby and toddler clothing (sizes 18 months, 2-4T). Donations go to nonprofits assisting women and young children in our communities including deployed families. Bring Items to the boxes near the Welcome Center. We will be collecting through Mother’s Day Weekend.

Intersections

Jesus’ resurrection assures us we don’t need to fear death! Why not make preparations for your funeral so that your loved ones can follow your desires? The resurrection proves death is not the end. Spend 10 minutes with Pastor Mark looking at a tool that will help you connect with your loved ones at the intersection of faith and real life. Saturday, April 30, 8:00am.
