Greeting

The last words Jesus said could be summarized in one word: GO. God wants us on mission.  God wants us to go.  Will you go with us into our community and beyond?  That is what God wants us to do. So that is what we do with His power and His blessing.

Scripture Reading

Acts 1:3-11 - After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

Revelation Song

Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain
Holy holy is He
Sing a new song to Him Who sits on
Heaven's mercy seat

Holy holy holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was and is and is to come
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You

Clothed in rainbows of living color
Flashes of lightning rolls of thunder
Blessing and honor strength and
Glory and power be
To You the only wise King

Holy holy holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was and is and is to come
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You

Filled with wonder
Awestruck wonder
At the mention of Your name
Jesus Your name is power
Breath and living water
Such a marvelous mystery

Holy holy holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was and is and is to come
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You
Holy holy holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was and is and is to come
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You

Message: Come Go With Us

Goodbyes leave our stories unfinished

Acts 1:3-6 - After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

Acts 1:7-9 - He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

Acts 1:10-11 - They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

Come, go with us

Acts 1:4-5 - “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.…in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 1:8-9 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

Confession of Sins

Pastor: Lord Jesus, when You were about to depart into heaven, You lifted Your hands in blessing and promised to be with us always.  Even though Your Word confirms Your presence in our lives, we are a sinful people, in need of Your forgiveness.

All: We confess that we have been indifferent and forgotten Your blessing. We have focused on our own loneliness, though You have promised to be with us always. You have promised to return, yet we have grown impatient and fail to set our hearts on things above. We have not always been a people of anticipation, and need a return to joy.

Commissioning

Pastor: As the only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, ascended into the heavens, so may we also ascend in heart and mind and continually dwell there with Him. As the disciples returned from Christ's ascension filled with mighty joy, so, you also are renewed in Christ's saving promise. As the forgiven and sent people of God: come, go with us!

Forth in the Peace of Christ We Go (LSB 920)

Forth in the peace
Of Christ we go
Christ to the world
With joy we bring
Christ in our minds
Christ on our lips
Christ in our hearts
The worlds true king

Priests of the world
Christ sends us forth
This world of time
To consecrate
This world of sin
By grace to heal
Christs world in Christ
To recreate

We are the Church
Christ bids us show
That in His Church
All nations find
Their hearth and home
Where Christ restores
True peace true love
To all mankind

Ascension Creed

Pastor: Jesus has ascended with shouts of joy, the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets.

All: Christ says, "I am with you always to the end of the age."

Pastor: Then He led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up His hands He blessed them.  While He blessed them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple blessing God. (Luke 24)

All: He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Matthew 28:18-20 - “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
