Today’s word to live by: BECOMING

What are you becoming? You can tell by the fruit your life produces. Christ is the Vine; you are the branches. May your connection to God protect you when you need protecting, challenge you when you need challenging, lead you when you are lost and give you power to remain in Christ forever.

ORDER OF WORSHIP

Greeting

With The Lord Begin Your Task

With the Lord begin Your task
Jesus will direct it
For His aid and counsel ask
Jesus will perfect it
Every morn with Jesus rise
And when day is ended
In His name then close your eyes
Be to Him commended

Let each day begin with prayer
Praise and adoration
On the Lord cast every care
He is your salvation
Morning evening and at night
Jesus will be near you
Save you from the tempters might
With His presence cheer you

With your Savior at your side
Foes need not alarm you
In His promises confide
And no ill can harm you
All your trust and hope repose
In the mighty Master
Who in wisdom truly knows
How to stem disaster

Thus Lord Jesus every task
Be to You commended
May Your will be done I ask
Until life is ended
Jesus in Your name begun
Be the days endeavor
Grant that it may well be done
To Your praise forever

Fruitful Trees The Spirit’s Sowing

Fruitful trees the Spirit's sowing
May we ripen and increase
Fruit to life eternal growing
Rich in love and joy and peace

Laden branches freely bearing
Gifts the Giver loves to bless
Here is fruit that grows by sharing
Patience kindness gentleness

Rooted deep in Christ our Master
Christ our pattern and our goal
Teach us as the years fly faster
Goodness faith and self-control

Fruitful trees the Spirit's tending
May we grow till harvests cease
Till we taste in life unending
Heaven's love and joy and peace

Message: Becoming

Who Am I Becoming?

John 15:5 - “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

The Vine: “I am the true vine.”   - John 15:1

The Gardener: “And my Father is the gardener.”  - John 15:1

The Branches: “You are the branches.”  - John 15:5

The Fruit: “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit.”  - John 15:8

John 15:5-8 - “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”

John 15:9-14 - “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.”

John 15:16 - You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last”

Prayer

Confession

Pastor: Jesus said, “Apart from me you can do nothing.”

People: Lord I confess that I have lived for myself. I put myself and my desires first and live as if I mattered most.

I have not honored Your name through my words and actions.

My worship and prayer are so often empty and insincere.

I have not allowed Your love to move me and work through me.

My branch has withered. I long to walk with You and do Your will to the glory of Your holy name.

As I confess these and all my sins, I ask You to reconnect me to the Vine. Amen.

Absolution

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

We worship and praise our Risen Savior forever!

“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

The Lord’s Prayer

People: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

John 15:5 - “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit”

Go My Children With My Blessing

Go My children with My blessing
Never alone
Waking sleeping I am with you
You are My own
In My loves baptismal river
I have made you Mine forever
Go My children with My blessing
You are My own

Go My children sins forgiven
At peace and pure
Here you learned how much I love you
What I can cure
Here you heard My dear Sons story
Here you touched Him saw His glory
Go My children sins forgiven
At peace and pure

Go My children fed and nourished
Closer to Me
Grow in love and love by serving
Joyful and free
Here My Spirits power filled you
Here His tender comfort stilled you
Go My children fed and nourished
Joyful and free

I the Lord will bless and keep you
And give you peace
I the Lord will smile upon you
And give you peace
I the Lord will be your Father
Savior Comforter and Brother
Go My children I will keep you
And give you peace

Offerings

Thank you for those who responded this week by increasing your automated offerings. The leadership will be providing ministry updates and an opportunity for worshippers to make pledges to help us prepare for the work that is before us in sharing the Good News.

LIVING OUT YOUR FAITH

Prayer Requests

  • Pray as we consider our giving as a response of our personal worship. May we be filled with the Spirit so that we trust and act as we see God powerfully at work in our ministries at St. Peter’s.

  • As we look to the ministry year before us and the many opportunities it brings, may the Lord lead us to pledge to support our ministry goals.

  • A submitted prayer request: “Lord, we have received your message!! We are to use your house as it has been designed and built! How it is in need to have all spaces / areas repaired, put into usable condition. Lord, your help and guidance is needed and the courage to do so.

  • “Just because a program ended, does not mean it was a failure.” Give God the glory for the great things He has done through the years through our ministries and outreaches.

Believe

It is one thing to know the story of the Bible. It’s another thing to live it. We are going to pull out our Believe topical Bibles and look at the 3rd section. It will help us answer the Who am I becoming? question. To do this we will find clear Biblical guidance to help us live fruitful lives. Our themes over the next 10 Sundays will be the fruit of the Spirit. So please dig out your Believe Bible (or pick up a copy to use these weeks). Remember if you can’t be with us that the messages are available on our St. Peter’s website / YouTube channel. We previously covered Discover & Connect. Now we move on to the third part of our next step: Engage. Please bring the Believe Bible each week to use during the message.

Pastor Led Sunday Bible Class

You are invited to join with fellow worshipers to study the Sunday texts more in depth. Examine the context to see the setting of the story. Be challenged to apply Biblical truth to your life. At 10:30am in the Discipleship Room to the right as you exit the sanctuary. Bring a cup of coffee and pick up a treat to enjoy on your way in. Life Application Bibles are provided for your study.

Discover Class

We are excited that we have new worshippers who have shared a desire to become members of our congregation! What about you? If you are ready to discover what it means to be a member of St. Peter’s, you are invited to join with others to sit down with Pastor Mark to learn more about our ministries and how you fit in. Start here: complete a “CONNECT CARD” and check the box “I would like more information about membership / St. Peter’s.”
