Words To Live By - Kindness
Welcome!
Thanks for joining us this morning! We’re so glad you’re here with us. If you’re new here and want to find out a bit more about our service, have questions, or want to connect, click the button below.
Today’s word to live by: KINDNESS
Instead of tearing others down, we should build them up. Instead of taking the easy way out, we should go the extra mile, do the unexpected, do the hard things out of love. God shows His kindness to us in Jesus Christ. Because God is kind to us, we can be kind to others.

Order of Worship
Christ Be Magnified
Were creation suddenly articulate
With a thousand tongues to lift one cry
From north to south and east to west
We'd hear Christ be magnified
Were the whole earth echoing His eminence
His name would burst from sea and sky
From rivers to the mountain tops
We'd hear Christ be magnified
O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me
When every creature finds its inmost melody
And every human heart its native cry
Then in one enraptured hymn of praise
We'll sing Christ be magnified
O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me
I won't bow to idols
I'll stand strong and worship You
And if it puts me in the fire
I'll rejoice 'cause You're there too
I won't be formed by feelings
I’ll hold fast to what is true
If the cross brings transformation
Then I'll be crucified with You
'Cause death is just the doorway
Into resurrection life
If I join You in Your suffering
Then I'll join You when You rise
And when You return in glory
With all the angels and the saints
My heart will still be singing
My song will be the same
O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
O Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me
Greeting and Invocation
Reckless Love
Before I spoke a word You were singing over me
You have been so so good to me
Before I took a breath You breathed Your life in me
You have been so so kind to me
Oh the overwhelming never-ending
Reckless Love of God
Oh it chases me down fights 'til I'm found
Leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it I don't deserve it
Still You give Yourself away
Oh the overwhelming never-ending
Reckless Love of God
When I was Your foe still Your love fought for me
You have been so so good to me
When I felt no worth You paid it all for me
You have been so so kind to me
Oh the overwhelming never-ending
Reckless Love of God
Oh it chases me down fights 'til I'm found
Leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it I don't deserve it
Still You give Yourself away
Oh the overwhelming never-ending
Reckless Love of God
There's no shadow You won't light up
Mountain You won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall You won't kick down
Lie You won't tear down
Coming after me
There's no shadow You won't light up
Mountain You won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall You won't kick down
Lie You won't tear down
Coming after me
There's no shadow You won't light up
Mountain You won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall You won't kick down
Lie You won't tear down
Coming after me
There's no shadow You won't light up
Mountain You won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall You won't kick down
Lie You won't tear down
Coming after me
Oh the overwhelming never-ending
Reckless Love of God
Oh it chases me down fights 'til I'm found
Leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it I don't deserve it
Still You give Yourself away
Oh the overwhelming never-ending
Reckless Love of God
Scripture Reading
Ephesians 4:31-5:2 - Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

STP Kids Dismissal
STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!
Message: Kindness
1 Samuel 20:13-16 - But if my father intends to harm you, may the Lord deal with Jonathan, be it ever so severely, if I do not let you know and send you away in peace. May the Lord be with you as he has been with my father. But show me unfailing kindness like the Lord’s kindness as long as I live, so that I may not be killed, and do not ever cut off your kindness from my family—not even when the Lord has cut off every one of David’s enemies from the face of the earth.” So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, “May the Lord call David’s enemies to account.”
2 Samuel 9:1 - “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”
2 Samuel 9:2-5 - “Are you Ziba?” “At your service,” he replied. The king asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?” Ziba answered the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is lame in both feet.” “Where is he?” the king asked. Ziba answered, “He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.” So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel.
2 Samuel 9:6-10, 13 - When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor. David said, “Mephibosheth!” “At your service,” he replied. “Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.” Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?” Then the king summoned Ziba, Saul’s steward, and said to him, “I have given your master’s grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family. You and your sons and your servants are to farm the land for him and bring in the crops, so that your master’s grandson may be provided for. And Mephibosheth, grandson of your master, will always eat at my table.”…And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table; he was lame in both feet.
Ephesians 4:32 - Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Prayer
Personal Confession
People: Father, thank You for loving me today. Thank You for Your kindness. I come to You and repent of anything that stands in the way of our relationship today in Jesus' name. Amen.
Communion
The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.
“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)
The Lord’s Prayer
People: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Blessing
Titus 3:4-5 - But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.
How Great Is Our God
The splendor of the King
Clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice
All the earth rejoice
He wraps Himself in light
And darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
And trembles at His voice
How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God
And age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the End
Beginning and the End
The Godhead three in one
Father Spirit Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb
How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God
Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God
Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God
How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great

Prayer Requests
May the Holy Spirit fill us with kindness so we do the right thing and deepen our relationships with others in Jesus’ name.
Our facility is a blessing and a responsibility. As we continue repairs and maintenance, may we be good stewards of what God has provided to serve our community. The projects seem endless, but God’s provision is all we need.
Give thanks to God for our Donuts with Dads event yesterday and the playground projects that were accomplished. May God raise up young fathers as spiritual leaders in their families.
May our Lord provide protections to families who are traveling during the last weeks of summer before school begins.
Pray for the work of the Edina School District as they prepare for the coming school year and as we continue to explore partnerships with St. Peter’s & the schools to serve the needs of residents.
