Greeting and Announcements

National Good Neighbor Day is September 28. Did you even know that day existed? You have the opportunity to be a good neighbor - something Jesus invites you to do everyday. Today, we are introducing the "I love my neighborhood" series of messages. Welcome neighbor!

Invocation

Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

All:  Amen.

Pastor: Let us each proclaim the glory of the Lord for all the world to hear!

All: God has been so gracious unto us and blessed us in so many ways.

Pastor: Blessings are meant to be shared and God's wonder should be known by all.

All: Then let our voices be raised to proclaim God's wonder and majesty.

Pastor: And let our hearts be filled with joyful praise for our loving God.

God of Grace and Glory

God of grace and God of glory
On Your people pour Your power
Crown Your ancient church's story
Bring its bud to glorious flower
Grant us wisdom grant us courage
For the facing of this hour
For the facing of this hour

Lo the hosts of evil 'round us
Scorn the Christ assail His ways
From the fears that
Long have bound us
Free our hearts to faith and praise
Grant us wisdom grant us courage
For the living of these days
For the living of these days

Cure Thy children's warring madness
Bend our pride to Your control
Shame our wanton selfish gladness
Rich in things and poor in soul
Grant us wisdom grant us courage
Lest we miss Your kingdom's goal
Lest we miss Your kingdom's goal

Set our feet on lofty places
Gird our lives that they may be
Armored with all Christ-like graces
In the fight to set men free
Grant us wisdom grant us courage
That we fail not man nor Thee
That we fail not man nor Thee

Scripture Reading

Mark 12:28-31 - One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

STP Kids Dismissal

STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Message: Love Your Neighbor

I Will Follow

All Your ways are good
All Your ways are sure
I will trust in You alone
Higher than my sight
High above my life
I will trust in You alone

Where You go I'll go
Where You stay I'll stay
When You move I'll move
I will follow You
Who You love I'll love
How You serve I'll serve
If this life I lose
I will follow You
I will follow You

Light into the world
Light into my life
I will live for You alone
You're the One I seek
Knowing I will find
All I need in You alone
In You alone

Where You go I'll go
Where You stay I'll stay
When You move I'll move
I will follow You
Who You love I'll love
How You serve I'll serve
If this life I lose
I will follow You
I will follow You

In You there's life everlasting
In You there's freedom for my soul
In You there's joy unending joy

In You there's life everlasting
In You there's freedom for my soul
In You there's joy unending joy
And I will follow

Who You love I'll love
How You serve I'll serve
If this life I lose
I will follow

Where You go I'll go
Where You stay I'll stay
When You move I'll move
I will follow You
Who You love I'll love
How You serve I'll serve
If this life I lose
I will follow You

I will follow You
I will follow You
I will follow You

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

Communion

Pastor: The Lord be with you

All: And also with you.

Pastor: Lift up your hearts.

All: We lift them to the Lord.

Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

All: It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

Pastor: We give You thanks and praise, O Lord, for all of Your goodness to us.  We praise You for the gift of new life and renewed hearts.  Send Your Holy Spirit to us, that in this holy meal we might receive the very body and blood of our Lord in faith and be strengthened for service in Your Name. Through Him all glory and honor are Yours, now and forever.

All: Amen.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION

PROCLAMATION OF CHRIST

Pastor: Lord of the Church, in this sacrament You call us to remember Your presence and passion, Your death and resurrection; so remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray:

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

Thanksgiving

Pastor: We give thanks, heavenly Father, that You have graciously refreshed us with the body and blood of Your dear Son. Strengthen us in faith and life so that we may be Your instruments to care for the wellbeing of our neighbors; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

All: Amen.

Blessing

1 Thessalonians 3:12 - May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else.

Build My Life

Worthy of every song we could ever sing
Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
We live for You
Jesus the name above every other name
Jesus the only one who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
We live for You

Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
And show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me

Jesus the name above every other name
Jesus the only one who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
We live for You

Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
And show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me

I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken
I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken

Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
And show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me
