Greeting and Announcements

Happy Grandparents Day! Even if you aren’t a grandparent, you have been impacted by grandparents around you and I’m pretty sure you will benefit from celebrating grandparents and the unique role they play in strengthening families. This week we look at the role of grandparents in our culture and return next week to look at the Biblical patterns of grand parenting.

Grandparents

Grandchildren are the crown of grandparents, and parents are the glory of their children. - Proverbs 17:6

Jesus Loves Me

Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me so
Little ones to Him belong
They are weak but He is strong

Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so

Jesus loves me this I know
Though my hair is white as snow
Though my sight is growing dim
Still He bids me trust in Him

Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so

Jesus loves me He who died
Heaven's gate to open wide
He will wash away my sin
Let His little child come in

Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so

Apostles Creed

All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate. Was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell.  The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church,  the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Who You Say I Am

Who am I that the highest King
Would welcome me
I was lost but He brought me in
Oh His love for me
Oh His love for me

Who the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
I'm a child of God
Yes I am

Free at last He has ransomed me
His grace runs deep
While I was a slave to sin
Jesus died for me
Yes He died for me

Who the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
I'm a child of God
Yes I am
In my Father's house
There's a place for me
I'm a child of God
Yes I am

I am chosen not forsaken
I am who You say I am
You are for me not against me
I am who You say I am
I am chosen not forsaken
I am who You say I am
You are for me not against me
I am who You say I am
I am who You say I am

Who the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
I'm a child of God
Yes I am
In my Father's house
There's a place for me
I'm a child of God
Yes I am

Scripture Reading

Psalm 103:13-18 - As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; For he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; The wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, And his righteousness with their children’s children—With those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.

STP Kids Dismissal

STP Kids is the Children’s Ministry at St. Peter’s Edina, designed for all children from 6 months to 10 years old (Grade 5). Older children are welcome to participate as helpers. Our vision is to partner with parents in raising up a generation of children that will seek their God-given Kingdom mission and impact their world for Jesus!

Action Step

Generational Prayer

All: Thank You, heavenly Father, for the gift of family. My family is far from perfect. Forgive us for not showing one another respect and for taking each other for granted. Fill our home with joy and a true appreciation for all generations.

Grandparents: Thank You, heavenly Father, for the gift of grandchildren. They are a very important part of our family. Help me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love them dearly. Help me show them what it means to be Your children and to encourage them to do Your will.

Pastor: Family of Christ, our Savior came to this earth to dwell among us and strengthen our families. His forgiveness is freely offered to all to look to Him. We don't deserve His love, yet He fills our homes with His presence. Live with peace, joy, and love for all generations!

Communion

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod holds the Biblical teaching that in Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. If you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in the Biblical teaching of the real presence of the Christ in this meal and grace through faith in Christ, and if you agree with our confession of faith, please join with the fellowship of disciples in Holy Communion.

“Everyone should examine themselves first, and then eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29)

Prayer

If you are in need of prayer, we would love the opportunity to pray with you! You can post a prayer on our online prayer wall, or submit a private prayer to our prayer team.

The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
